Which is the best domain to develop??

Go with resorts.ae

There are a lot of them and they are all competing for business. They also have advertising budgets where the other industries don't.

You might be able to set up a CPA or CPL type of program with the individual resorts, fight for %'s though.


Clubs.ae - Saturated & Established

Pizza.ae - No $

Golf.ae - Possible, never once saw a golf course advertise in Dubai though

Flights.ae - Market not strong enough

Weather.ae - No $, plus it's virtually always the same, sunny & hot

Medicine.ae - Possible for medical tourism, but hard to monetize

Cosmetics.ae - Market not strong enough

Pets.ae - Would be 2nd choice

Clothing.ae - No $

SolarPower.ae - No $

SolarPanels.ae - No $ (do these 2 have traffic?)

Hey Smith, thanks for the detailed comments.

The Solar names are receiving a little traffic, I think it will only increase, especially with places like Masdar being built.

I think Golf has massive potential especially with the current courses and the new ones going up.

I noticed that you have pizza(dot)ae. There is a site called 800pizza(dot)ae. I have a really hard time trying to understand why they didn't also reg pizza(dot)ae... Or were .ae domains really, really expensive or somehow restricted until recently? Is .com the prominent extension in the UAE?

I don't know if the locals already know what resort they would go to, but I would probably try to develop resorts(dot)ae first....

One of the few things I miss about dubai is 800Pizza . . . sigh

The Solar names are getting the most traffic and then Golf and Flights, but its not much at all to be honest.

I think Resorts.ae would also be for the tourists when the economy picks up??

I like this one too evirtual1, lots of potential, the same with clothing!!

Golf.ae by far!

We have Golf(8) as the leader, but only just, followed closely by Resorts(7), and then clothing(4), Flights(4) and SolarPanels(3). I honestly thought Golf would be way ahead, but obviously people think differently which is good to know. Makes me think a bit more and not be rash in my decisions.

I will leave it open a little longer to see if the order changes.

Compared to Resorts I think Golf would be easier to complete and ad to when a new one opens, like I mentioned earlier, the majority of golf courses are built to sell property and I would think developers would pay decent money for their banner ads to show up on Golf.ae (once it was developed and recieving decent traffic), There's no reason you can't advertise Hotels/Flights on there aswell, either paid banner advertising or affiliate links...or both. You could also have affiliate banners for Golf equipment and if you are really ambitious you could set up a shop selling golf equipment, I know its easy to say but its not impossible to do if you have a decent budget and team working with you..money money money :hehe:

(They have invested a HUGE AMOUNT of money over there in golf so if they are going to want a domain back out of all the ones you have it is likely to be this one, do something with it asap to protect it IMO)

One of the terms in the ae registrants agreement is you're not allowed to hold domains to prevent others from using it...(or words to that effect)


Flights
With Flights there are already affiliate advertising set up, like Emirates, Virgin, British Airways etc + the majority of people booking a flight will also need to book a Hotel (rather than a rental property). You could also have info on each of the airports to bring in more search engine traffic/potential customers

Weather
Quick enough to set up a small site using a free weather feed like Weather On Your Website - add weather.com weather to your website or similar, it would be harder to make any money from but I would just try and stick hotel related adsense links on if it was me.

The best thing or end game for this domain IMO is that once developed an enduser would make a decent offer to buy it from you, maybe the local government (if they don't take it off you). If they are planning to make the uae a main yachting & tourism destination then weather reports are pretty important...infact weather reports are important to most people in general.

Resorts
Nice enough domain but a little too vague for me and a helluva lot more work needed to build it out properly, still has opportunities for advertising Hotels, Flights, Car Hire etc

..of course all these ideas also need some money and good quality development skills to put it into practise :hehe: ..ideas are cheap !.

Any plans to try to develop some of these for a broader market than the UAE? For cometics, for example, the UAE search volume is low. The volume in UAE for "makeup" and "make up" combined is over 20X higher than for "cosmetics". (although "cosmetics" does trigger more ads, at least when I type them into google.ae from here in the US.)

You are at a good place to ask that question , go to the website development section, although you can get a wordpress site for $5 a month with hosting and now they offer many template options . all the names in my sig are wordpress , plus i have newcreditcardreviews.com and its from domainmonster.com , it only costs $20 a year for name and hosting, the reason i say develop is that if the bottom drops out of domaining and you have a decent website you at least have something in reserve , also it gives you skills and helps you understand what a developer wants. In the free section here there is a thread for wordpress designs , some are quite good , but not all are available in the standard wordpress templates , in a standard wordpress site there is about 40 template options, join up some affiliate sites and open adsense account , blogs are well received in the search engines

I started writing and then spotted your template options ....... yes you are on the correct track

First of all i would think of what type of site and then go from there ? blog, commerce .....etc

As we know this is a great place to ask questions, but do jump in and start to get a feel for it all ........it then becomes fun

Golf | Cosmetics | Resorts I would develop.

ThemeForest.net has some of the best themes for rather cheap that you can use to get a really professional website. They have different ones for wordpress and are of much better quality then the free layouts you find easily online. I would avoid flash content as it won't help the websites rank on search engines. Search engines typically ignore all flash content (as far as I know).

Thanks Daj, appreciate the advice, thats the kind of info I need to know before even starting a project like this.

I will certainly have a look at ThemeForest and see what they have.
