Why HostGator sucks - Review

I've hosted with a few other hosts before, and I've compared the prices and hostgator has good pricing and I've never had problems with uptime, but if you are late on payment you basically get screwed if you continue to go through them after being late, just a heads up to anyone considering hostgator. I was late on payment the other day, so they suspended my account. You don't pay for the previous month's hosting with them, you pay in advance. So to use my website this month, I would have to pay them in advance, or they shut it off before it gets into this month's hosting. So I made payment, and a few days go by and my website was still turned off. They made at least $120 from my traffic this past weekend (they put up a parked page when they suspend you until you change your DNS). They told me that to turn it back on, they would charge me a late fee of $10. I asked the guy "why would you charge me $10 when I don't owe you anything, I'm paying for this month's service, I'm paying to have it turned back on, not to settle a debt or anything that I already owe?". He said that as long as I use the same email address, I would have to pay the late fee. So if I leave hostgator, then sign up for hostgator hosting again, with a different email address, I would avoid the "late fee". So basically hostgator already made over $120 off me this past weekend, and now they charged me a late fee for choosing to continue to go through them (I have to get my hosting activated again so I can get to all my files and move them to a new host). So just to let you know, hostgator is garbage. I've been hosting with hostmysite.com for about a year now with other websites of mine and although they are a little more expensive and you get less space etc., it's well worth the price because they haven't done anything sheisty like this with me yet.

Support isn't great. I assume it's because they are an EIG company now and share tech support ops with them.

Today i signed up with hostgator, till the payment i was served honey.

Post payment they started showed their ugly witch face.

They suspend my account after my first login and asked me to send huge list of documents.

I really wonder are they going to finance me?

Atleast they should have some manner to inform these long procedure before signup. May be this is their part of standard - Hide and seek business.
They have to come out of the stone age.

I pity for the existing customer who are feeding this shit gator. Really they are all people with big mercy.

Gator! learn some human manners or would be killed by some good hunters.

I opened up a support ticket with HostGator tonight. Three minutes later I received a response. I emailed back and 7 minutes later they had solved my issue (upgraded my PHP version) and I'm back on my way again. Whole thing took under 13 minutes.

I've been with them for several years now and have few complaints.

Could you show the domain you host with them?

Well, after 3 years, and a ton of headaches I am in severe need to leave Hostgator.

They have literally cost me thousands in lost revenue, time wasting, and they are so large now that really trying to keep their customers is not an option for them.

---------- Post added at 07:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:05 PM ----------

I'm usually not one to come on forums and complain, however my head is spinning from the amount of time that I spent on the phone with them, just so that they can "email me back later".

Literally, 1 hour, 35 minutes, and 15 seconds of cellular minutes burned through for just a "guy to understand where I am coming from".

I want to Google to hear that this HOSTGATOR REVIEW is literally from someone that has spent over 40K with them over the past few years. And the bottom line is that Hostgator hosting is no longer worthwhile.

Maybe if you own a a few small sites, but if you are like us, and looking to scale with people that actually care..then this company is not it.

Just so that I am extra transparent in my review of Hostgator, I'd like to tell you that the ONLY
site we are hosting with them is our ecommerce site.

For the most part, I am now waiting, to "hear back from their billing staff" on whether or not the year's worth of overcharging that I have been a part of, is valid of a credit or a discount.

i don't think so my friend!

Why are you trolling in someone else's thread ? Start your own in the proper forum.

This is HOSTGATOR review, not an advertising opportunity.

I shouldn't post this. Mods please delete this post and all the OT posts before, but, I can't help myself.

i don't think so my friend!

If you don't think so, why does your website say you don't have 100% uptime?
millionairehost.biz said:
Millionairehost offer premium web hosting, unlimited reseller hosting solutions with 24/7 Support 99.9% Uptime

But then it also says this:
millionairehost.biz said:
99.99 Guaranteed Uptime

You may like to know that this is being independently checked:

99.9, 99.99, 99.97 are all different numbers. The one thing they do all have in common is that they are all less than 100.

Hostgator is i fack and sucks hosting services. I bay from him 1 month busines hosting 1 day work ok but on the next day he requesting from me the next (I weel post exact email from him)

HostGator - Verification Requested
"Hello,

Thank you for your order with HostGator.com!

In order for us to continue with the account setup, please respond to this ticket with a scanned copy of a Photo ID such as as a passport, or drivers license. In addition to a photo ID, please include a scanned copy of the credit card that was used in your account purchase (assuming you purchased a hosting account with a credit card). For security purposes you can mask off all the digits of the card number except for the last 4 digits.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation here, and look forward to working with you.

Thank you,
HostGator.com Sales Team
Customer ID: xxxxxxxx"

I made the transaction through paypal last 4 digits of the card are visible, now they demand copy of my card, why I should give them such information, to give them all your passwords and lust work. It's as cheap as many hostinguri dealing only with fraud, eg buddyhost.com which likewise did not work now. Do not fall for this type of hosting that you will lose your money. Good luck to all the paid services worth not like Hostgator.com.

I've been with HostGator for at least 7 years, and its all been good.. I really like the chat support when you need to resolve a issue. It can be worth it's weight in Gold.

The credit card I have on file needs to be updated now and then when the card expires or is replaced, so I too have been tardy on my payment when I don't keep my CC updated.. HostGator send you a email reminder when your late, and another late reminder, and another, and if your account is still overdue, it is then that they temporarily disconnect your service.

When you pay your rent, isn't it usually at the beginning of the month for that month? And if your late, doesn't your landlord charge you a late fee?

When HostGator hoses you, they do a great job

Like most of you, I have been a HostGator customer for many years. In the beginning they were really awesome, but they seem to have moved into the big corporation mentality.

I've registered many domains that I've hosted on HostGator and it never took more than a few minutes for the domain to respond. A few times a new domain would not respond within an hour after the name servers were changed to HostGator. If you go to Live Chat, they will refuse to do anything because they will cite their policy about domain propagation and waiting 24 hours. Well, I got that same song and dance about domain propagation for 3 DAYS and they STILL would do nothing. I had to force an admin in before they discovered it was them.

They are now quick to refer you to their documents to prove they aren't wrong or required to do anything for you. Their customer service is way worse than it used to be.

Now, HostGator has ruined us. A very old Website version landed on my server that didn't even use the current theme. When I asked them how that could have happened, they denied doing anything. Well, that is 100% crap. Software does not rot or rust. If it corrupts, it certainly isn't going to morph into a fully working older version. It has to be placed there.

I discovered that I screwed up by assuming they regularly backed up my dedicated server. Foolish person, with HostGator you pay more and get less. Let me suggest that if you haven't read their volumes of text, do so soon. You'll find that their documents, that you agree to by signing up, make them responsible for nothing.

They claim there are no backups of a dedicated server, so if an old site got written over my current one, it surely wasn't them. They would never do such a thing. Of course not. It must have been Martians, the NSA or some other external entity.

So, word of warning. I have done business with HostGator for over 7 years and they hosed me, denied they did it and then simply referred me to their documents absolving them from any responsibility.

So, if you are not willing to take steps to protect your databases, files and sites from your vendor, then do not choose HostGator.

Hostgator are dirt cheap, so expect poor service and no backups, and be grateful when they do things well. I have been with them for years, a hundred or so sites over 5 accounts - never a problem. Customer service always quite good.

If you show them any signs of spam (country you are from, domain name, using a VPN etc) then expect it to be harder to sign up with them - they are cheap and well-known so they attract spammers.

Make your own backups (easy and cheap to automate these days) and realize that if you pay them $7/mo, contacting customer support probably means they are losing money having you as a customer.

Stay away from EIG hosts. Go with hosts like mddhosting.com or other independent hosts. Research host at the Web hosting talk forum

Which one?

Hi everyone;
I have some ideas of developing a couple of websites with WordPress. Is there someone who could please tell me the best hosting company?

You browse around and everyone seems the best...then you talk to people and everyone turns into crap like magic!

Thanks for helping!
