Yes you insinuated correctly. .GAY is here.

This site reports it:

Domain Names of the World: New .GAY tld

My question is: I like rainbows too, why do they get exclusive rights and affiliations with it :(

You'll also notice on the dotGAY homepage http://gaytld.com/ they have the "Flickr" option at the top highlighted by default, and it becomes brighter with highlight than any of the other social engines. Maybe this is a joke, and these guys have a sense of humour? "With a Flickr of the wrist"

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
How is equality suppose to happen, when gay organizations and gay groups constantly try to separate themselves from the non-gay world. We have gay bars, gay clubs, gay communes, gay stores, a gay channel, San Francisco, gay schools for GLBT kids. What's next gay airlines? An all gay government? A gay world for only "gay" people?

Why do we constantly feel the need to separate ourselves from others based on our beliefs, sexual orientation, or the color of our skin? It's not just the gay community who does this, black people, white people, and religious affiliated people do the same thing too.

Equality doesn't happen by separating the apples from the oranges.
I feel this .gay tld does nothing but create more separation from the non-gay world.

.com at least is "neutral" and appeals to everyone, which is why it remains "king" of all domains.

What if the KKK wanted their own TLD .KKK?
What if the Black Panthers wanted their own TLD .BLACK?
What if the Pope wanted his own extension to .HELL?

How far will ICANN allow it to go?

As a gay man, I don't care for the extension either.

It just looks stupid with most popular keywords due to the fact that the word "Gay" is often
used as the first word when it comes to most keywords "Gay Chat, Gay Dating, etc..", or it
doesn't make sense when you read it to yourself. Granted I'm sure many organizations or
gay people might be interested in the extension, but I don't think enough will care for it to
be passed. Many already have their .com's and other cctld's they use. I don't see the
point of .gay for that reason.

As long as being gay is not made compulsory they can can do what they like, not getting any of my money-don't give them yours either and this and other useless extensions will die the death they deserve.

.dot gay is for the community, not straight people. You have your .com's , and .net's. But this is our own Gay extension, because we are Gay, and we want the world to know that were here, queer, and rule the interwebz. lol

Soon to be a South Park episode, just wait...

already been done - "im.not.gay" ~ Mr. Garrison

I said this in fewer words earlier in thread...all these different groups of people doing stuff like this set back their own equality.

All I know is that I'll most DEFINITELY be making sure to secure my name in this extension.
The last thing is need is (myname).gay showing up first in serps.

This will be the favorite TLD for e-wars between junior high school aged boys.

What's next -- .sucks? .bites? .a**hole? Or am I giving greedy registries too many bright ideas? ;)

Oh, you have got to be kidding me…

There is no need for this TLD. It has no use. It adds nothing to the World Wide Web.

^ sure it does.....without it we won't be able to tell who's gay or not!

Seriously maybe there should be another committee just to smack ICANN when someone suggests they move forward with extensions like these.

All in favor of allowing .gay to be a new extension say I! [Overseeing Member: SMACK...now sit down and shut up]

Everyone should read the page mellowmasher posted and their logic behind it. As she stated it's umm interesting to say the very least. (Thanks for the link mellow)

This is really stupid. I can see all kinds of issues with this one already.

Why can't gay/straight/bi people just use the same extensions as everyone else?

Just get is.gay then you can make all the subdomains you want.

I totally see people abusing this extension.

A disaster waiting to happen. Not to mention I can not think of more than a few dozen keywords that really make sense in that extension.

Just wait... .black and .jew is around the corner!

I mean do the people starting this extension up not realize that doing it promotes divisiveness? It's like yea, let's resegregate everyone! And that's not even taking into account abuse of the extension, sheesh.

I don't believe it will happen, but it's going to majorly backfire if it does.

Like bmugford pointed out, it's subject to a lot of abuse.

What if someone wanted to promote their point of view that being gay is a sin at a domain like Anti.gay? Are they going to limit free speech?

I mean this makes no sense. I can see generic extensions but this is such a horrible idea.

This is just going to open up a can of worms.

Some registrars are interested in making money from .gay. As long as they are going to free speech .gay is interesting concept.

Tons of TLD's come up everyday! This is meaningless!

Pathetic.Hot on the heals of .cm and .co
You guys really going to be suckered into this and fill the pockets of ICANN?

So lame.Another TLD will be announced next week and the week after.Soon there will be 500,then what? People will be so damn confused they will go back to .com

Don't get suckered in.Waste of money.Time to teach ICANN we are not going to fall in to the trap they have laid out again.

Its one big money suck... Rebel!
