The Government of Montenegro recognized the potential worldwide appeal that .ME could have and decided it should be operated as a generic name space to gain the maximum benefit for Montenegro. The Government issued a public RFP in November 2007. The goal of the RFP was to find a Registration Agent that could operate an international registry, provide world class backend registry services, and provide the marketing and promotional muscle needed to make .ME a worldwide success. Ultimately, we believe they made an excellent choice!

The contract was awarded to doMEn, d.o.o., a Montenegro based joint venture (doing business as .ME Registry) whose partners are Afilias Limited, GoDaddy.com, Inc., and ME-net d.o.o.

Landrush will start June 6 till June 26, domain names with more than 2 applications will go into Auction.

Go Live on July 17.

IMO it's a lot of money for a vanity name. That can be justified if the buyer has a serious business plan to match but it also shows that the few names that fetch good money are the ones that make sense in the extension ie a minority.

Looks like the buyer/end user of join.me will definitely have a biz plan

with a market value of over $500 million and with cutting-edge software, with lots of tech, apparently, spun out of MIT

also see where notify.me is getting some excellent traffic and customers -- really excellent platform that works well with Twitter, ebay, Craig's List, etc --- Well-known Geos, high premium key words, and of course, catchy call-action verbs will gain value

Hi, the only 3 letter acronym sale of note that I can remember is VIP .me
I have one which would fit a few large corporations, but I think it would have to be viewed as a vanity or loyalty type domain.
Somewhere along the lines of " I built this company from scratch and am very proud of it " So I will have xxx.me as my personal domain name.

Thats just how I think of it anyway.

It may be worth noting that some of those sales may not have gone through. I was watching the auction for some of them and the domain which sold for $15,200 did not go through and ended up getting reauctioned and eventually appeared to sell for low to mid xxxx.

Alex P, I like ICT.me, would be great for online training courses such as the ecdl. Or a blog for someone working within ICT.
As for pricewise, I've not been looking as much recently but there were quite a few sales on sedo early last year for meaningful LLL.me in the mid to high $XXX range.

I think unless you are going to start marketing it you shoud expect to hold it for quite a few years unless you are looking for a quick high xx low xxx flip to a domainer.

Thanks Toni, Will wait and see what the market decides for this great keyword. Thought it would be a reasonable price to start on I'll be suprised if it does not get any more bids. :* Ends in under 18 hours.
