One word exact match.me or longer.com for development

Hello,

I am planning on starting a mega information cite regarding a topic related to a religion, and I am debating whether to build it on the exact one word name in a .me (which I was able to buy), or should I make up a word on a .com and build the site on that. Would it matter for SEO at all? Is there anything else that I should be thinking about in this decision? Any thoughts would be very helpful.

IMHO the extension makes little difference with one caveat. If someone else owns the .com of the .me and you are trying to build a traffic based site you need to be aware of what the .com owner is doing (and can do).

It depends on the strength of the keyword which you don't share.

thank you very much. I should not say that name yet, because I am still hoping to buy the .com, but nothing is developed on the .com. But think of the term as a branch of a faith, and does receive in the 30k+ global searches a month. Is that enough to build on the term in a non-.com?

I was never sure whether to start on a .me or keep waiting in case the .com will be available. But again, since there is nothing on the .com, or .net for that matter, I feel that I can go with the .me, which I always liked as I would like to tailor the site to the individual.

Thank you for your help.

Exact match domains aren't the free pass they used to be. Unless it's very memorable and a great fit with .me, I'd go with a (partial match?) .com.
