I used to run my own search engine, and this is my script which I coded completely by hand.

The features include:

• Web Search
• Local Businesses Search
• Image Search
• News Search
• Video Search
• Domain Availablility Checker
• Domain Whois Lookup
• "Spell Checker"/Word correction

The spell checker works on EVERY search and the domain search has a "lookup" function which will provide a message if a user searches for a domain in any other search option. EG: try searching for "dog.com" in web search and you will be greeted with the message: "dog.com is is already registered. View Whois Info".

The script itself basically runs off yahoo. This is 100% legal, as Yahoo provide an API for this kind of use. This means - no databases... no worrying about not having up to date results... and no overloading your server.

The script is also provided with a Domains search which acts as an availability checker AND whois search.

The script is extremely easy to add your own design to. The php is mostly kept away from the HTML, making it easier to modify yourself, and my MSN/email address is also provided so you can get hold of me, and ask me any questions you may have. I'll also help you get the script running on your server!

The script makes money from adverts on the search results page. These are currently served by oxado.com as adsense requires all pages to be indexed before providing adverts, however oxado adverts work on the current content of the page. This however is easy to change to either adsense, or your own adverts system, should you have one.
