I reg'd a domain name that a very well known online casino/gambling company has interest in. Sent me an email.

They asked what I wanted for the name $. Its a fresh reg through my creative mind and thinking and fits in very well with there company name and business.

Would you ask for high dollar amount for a fresh reg'd domain or ask them to make an offer?

How about asking them to make you a fair/reasonable offer...put them on the spot to deliver first, and then you can see where you stand...and make your decision to counter, or even accept. Who knows, they may offer more than you expect!

This is probably the best thing you can do. Put the weight on them. If you think the offer is not reasonable, then nudge it up.

When it's a fresh reg, you help yourself by having a good reason to justify it's price. If you can come up with a price you would be happy with, then reply back to them with why the domain is valuable, in your opinion, and then ask a slightly higher price than the one you came up with.

I have also had situations where I stated a high price and they didn't answer back at all. Obviously, when this happens, the potential buyer is 1.) hesitating, to see if you'll cave in and offer a lower price or 2.) thinks your asking too much and are wasting their time. At this point, you can either keep the domain, if you think you'll come across other end users, or you can try to see what amount they really had in mind.

My solution to this was to wait a couple of days and write them back and say, "The asking price in my previous email was only to spur negotiations. I am willing to take less. Did you have an offer in mind?" That line got them to at least make an offer.

You do have a definite advantage, in that the company has contacted you. So, you already know that they have thought about it and are interested in buying.

I too would reply asking for a reasonable offer so that you know what there price range is. Always assume they will pay more than what they said and counter. Hopefully you can come to a fair price. However somepeople are turned off by that and my fail to make an offer. If they dont come back with an offer then send them an e-mail like 2 or 3 days later to name a price.

Well he replied with no offer. He mentioned he buys domains based on traffic and revenue only and asked me for stats. He also asked me again what I wanted for the domain considering it was reg'd within the past 2 weeks. His quote, " I buy domains only based on traffic and paying multiple of XX annual revenue"

Well, imho he should well be aware there is no traffic/revenue being such a new reg.

The value is in the name period. Its worth reg fee to me and alot more if developed into an affiliate site, but to them it could be worth alot more.

Hmmm...........I never liked negotiating. Imho he has only one thing against him. Thats the fact that I have nothing to loose but $7.20

Hi Hasrob, my initial reaction is to think he's saying that to try and make you think it's actually not worth that much.. I've come across it before. It makes you try and justify its value to yourself and obviously, with a fresh reg, you can't really do it.

Go with your gut and if it's not what you feel the domain is worth, hold on to it. If he wants it that badly, he'll up his offer. We can never tell how long we'll end up holding on to domains for, or even if they'll sell. But if you've had one party interested, maybe you could contact similar companies and let them know the domain is for sale.

Just my two pennies worth.. :imho:

Edited to add: Also, he'd know full well, if it was freshly regged, it wouldn't have a great deal of traffic. Just something to think about, I am by no means an expert!!

Is this guy a domainer or a gambing site owner? He knows a name associated and linked to his main site will quickly generate enough traffic to negate any lack of traffic. Remind him of that.

You could play his game, and ask him to kindly show some examples of other names he has purchased (and the traffic with them). He won't do so, but you'll make a point.

After you remind him that it's a new reg and therefore has no history, ask him to make a fair offer based on its obvious potential when associated with their site.

If he won't, just thank him for his time and stop communicating. If he wants the domain, he'll contact you again within a couple of weeks...he won't risk you selling it to someone else.

I'm just gonna wait and see if they offer me a fair and reasonable offer for the domain. I'm not out to play anyone here, just make a little money. God knows I could use it LOL.
