I feel the need to post this.

Some of this is assumption.

Here is a case of someone who is relatively new, I'm assuming, that comes here for an appraisal of a name, WWEGaming.com, that is, IMHO worth reg fee at best, undeveloped.

Three people appraised it, one said: "Tough sale.. Good luck!" One said: "$20-$30 TM perception maybe?" One said "$250 WWE is Bigโ€ The High appraiser also made a post where he/she disagreed with the $20-$30 appraisal posting: "Nah thatโ€™s low, Like any domain with WWE in is a lot of $$$$"

The author of the thread also did a self directed appraisal using the NamePros Domain Name Value Estimator. This is not a bad tool, but only when an accurate "Market Rating" is used. This name has 52 google suggestions, and most of those are when the two words (WWE & Gaming) line up next to each other in separate sentences. The name has 0 OV suggestions and certainly no types ins & no traffic of any kind. Why would it? Now the author chose a market rating of 5. That returned him/her nice values. IMHO this name has a 0 market rating. Remember I'm talking about the "NAME" only

Popular Rating: 0

Anyway now we have someone with a high self directed appraisal as well as three other appraisals. It is usually human nature to accept the appraisal that suits your needs. This person obviously did that.

To make matters worse, based on all he "Learned" from the high appraiser, he went out and bought 2 more useless domains (no value and/or TM issues)

Why did the author not ask the "Tough Sell" appraiser any questions? Why did he/she not ask the "$20-$30 TM issue" appraiser any questions? Nope, he/she chose to rely on the "$250 WWE Is Big and thatโ€™s a nice Name good luck Like any domain with WWE in is a lot of $$$$" appraiser. We are all guilty of doing that at times.

I guess my point is that throwing around statements about the value of domains, like bouquets of flowers, does nobody any good.

If you don't know much about appraising the value of domain names, why do it?

I again say that some of the above is assumption, but probably not far from the truth. I posted this, not to flame anyone, but because I have been watching the appraisal forum and have noticed more than a few times that, suspect to downright bad information, is being posted.

Edit: I started writing this about 6 or 7 posts ago, so I did not see that the author had bought more names nor do I have anything to do with the spat between others

I suppose what you say is very true but this is quite normal for me. When I purchase domains, I get about 5-10 in one day. I'm very domain happy when I get domains.

And that's great, I'm glad your having fun, that's a big part of the domain game.

With regards to WWE names, and trade marks. It was the WWE who had to change from WWF because of TM infringements in a dispute with the World Wildlife Fund. So you can be sure they protect WWE very well.
