Not sure which got a head start, my gut would say world but have seen many global in sales reports. Namebio also reports 2200+ sales for keyword 'world' at 2500 average sale price, as opposed to the 'global' keyword at 948 sales with 2,100 average price. May the best team win.

I voted for ".global" but the use is not the same to me.

I do not own any .world, and I do own several .global. I did not even know .world existed until I saw this thread.

That being said, I voted for .world because I think it is the better extension. Probably because before .world was a real extension, many domain names could end with world. I think about it as ProductWorld.com (where Product is anything you want to sell or offer). Now you can say Product.world No wonder several of my names that fit the pattern _______World.com have been getting a lot of inquiries lately.

I prefer the world name, but as has been pointed out the dot global folks, who report all their sales to Namebio, have done a great job selling premium domains for the last year.

I too think they are different - I view global as working for a really large multinational corporation, whereas a small company might be interested in a world extension. For example, I own hikers(.)world that I think would work well with a sporting goods company that provides hiking related supplies. hikers(.)global would not work for me.

But if I was a large blockchain services company I can see blockchain(.)global (or ventures) as working better.
