Wordpress Sidebar Question

I am normally game enough to try and insert some google adsense into the code of the sidebar of any wordpress theme i am using but for my site recipeebook.net i just cant get it work without the site dropping out and me having to delete the code in the public files at my hosting, at least i can find my way there to do this but i really would love to get some adsense in the sibebar on this site

I will paste the code here and be grateful for any suggestions, maybe i should be trying to insert it somewhere else .....thems functions, stylesheets .....etc,

i dont get it either.
if your theme supports html/text widgets (which it does judging from the code) you should use one of them: adsense code is just a small piece of javascript that will be easily handled by one of these widgets (just try them to see which does not do any escaping to prevent modifying the javascript).
thats just what the widgets are intended for.

hard coding adsense into the theme/whatever function is not good idea as it will inevitably cause some pain for further maintenance imho

if you still want to hack i would take a look at the template responsible for sidebar rendering (can be in main template file or smth like sidebar.php, right-sidebar.php etc depending on the theme in your theme folder). identify/create a div you want the ad to go into and paste the javascript there

..or maybe i didnt get the question right?

I have seen a reference to short code for adsense before but in this theme there is no 'theme options' with that section?

So i guess i am slighty confused at this point because i am unable to spot a reference to adsense in the widget section

Im not sure if you posted your sidebar or not, Your side bar should have html in it so you might want to look around a bit more inside the files for your sidebar.

Under Appearance, you choose Widgets. I usually pick the Text Widget which is "Arbitrary text or HTML"

and just drag it over to the Sidebar where you want it, put the Adsense code in there. That's it. Adsense, affiliate links, other html, whatever you want.

Ah i see ... i did glance over to that section of the widgets but did not take much notice, i do have other themes in use that seem to require short code in another section which i am not up with so that's why i usually just insert it the way i have been, at this point i have followed your instructions but although the blocks are there it is missing the adsense but i guess it will appear when ready

Looks like you have it working, I'm seeing 3 160 × 600 Adsense under your Categories.

Sometimes it just takes a little time. You can also try using a proxy site to view your site. Eh, the one I tried doesn't work with Adsense, think javascript is blocked or something.
