WordPress Media Library Concepts

I'm building a WP based website where I expect to eventually have about a thousand images. As I look at the WP Media Library I see a flat file with filters and search. However, when I test the search it doesn't work like I expected. Documentation at WP seems very thin.

I'm wondering if I would be better off keeping the images somewhere else with stronger management features and linking to them from my posts.

Anyone have experience/suggestions for this situation?

outside hosting for images (there is a lot of them for free) is very good idea if u have a lot of images on your page. U will save place on your server and Wordpress will work better
