Last week I promised you that I will do something with Wor.ldNe.ws and let you good folks know about it by the end of the week. I am proud to present:

I have tried to marry the best features of google news and reddit, with minimalist design.
Features I borrowed from reddit:
1. People can vote up and down news stories to train the recommendation engine. Once that is done, the RE should be able to tell pick out the best news for you.
2. A practical upshot of the RE is that everybody will be able to see what's hot and what's not around the world.
Features from Google news:
1. Stories are pulled from reliable news sources. Each source is verified by administrators to make sure it is newsworthy.
2. The practical upshot of this is that unlike reddit, digg, and the ilk, cat pic will not end up clogging the system. Don't get me wrong, I love cats, but when we won't news, we won't news, not cat pics.
Known issues:
1. The off-the-shelf recommendation engine I am using sucks big time. I am working on a better algorithm.
2. RSS feeds are a bit wonky. I am fixing that too.
