Hi,

I own WomenDirectory.com and I believe this is a great name that could be developed into a huge web site, where you could sell or resell all kind of products, information and services for women.

The name is not very short, but it has two great words on it... women, which is just half the population of the Earth... and directory, which is a word that I have always seen that has the ability of attracting people looking for information.

The thing is that I own a very large number of good domain names (mostly undeveloped), and I probably won't ever have the time to develop a site like the one this domain name deserves. So, maybe it would be wiser to sell it right now and give a better use to the money, than just to keep it there, waiting for the hell to freeze over.

So... I would really appreciate a clue on what price might be asked for it, and if possible (don't really know the rules of this forum), suggest one of the "domain for sale" or "domain bidding" sites available on the net.

I like this name. I guess it could be turned into a huge shopping directory with paid advertising. IMO it's realistic to ask at least low-$$$$ for the name but I believe you are better off developping the name and keeping it long-term.
First park the name somewhere to see if you get some traffic and team up with someone to develop the name.
Something like http://dmoz.org/Shopping/ would be good but with more elaborate graphics and a bit of advertising.

Thank you for your review and suggestions.

I'm well aware of the potential of this domain, and I'm sure it would be much better to keep the name and develop it into a huge shopping directory, but as I said, I own a rather large amount of other good domain names, and my time is being almost absolutely consumed by the development of just a few of them, and I really don't believe I will ever have enough time to develop this one by myself.

On the other hand, your suggestion of teaming up with someone to develop the name together could be an excellent option... if I just had the right person or company to create this alliance.

I guess I'll keep an open mind and analyze both options if I receive an offer for either one.

I'd like to hear other members’ opinions too.

However, I think this is the type of name that the plural would have been more effective.

Womens is a common misspelling of women's.

womens is not a misspelling of women... "Womens" is possessive of "women" ( and I would imagine - plural though I did not get my Master's in english.

I didn't get my Master's in English either, but I believe womens is a misspelling. It would be a possessive noun if it had the apostrophe 's. But of course, you can't use apostrophes on domain names.

Anyway... the price you suggest I believe is too low... I mean, you are asking $500 for your womenswebs.com and you believe mine is worth just mid$$ ?

it is a women's directory, hence the womens.
check google and you will see that the results for "women directory" include a lot of "women's" in it (majority).
this is part of google's "-" and "'" problem.

in any case, I was just trying to help.
I still think the term in English is women's directory, not women directory.

Definitely not to be argumentative, but I would never say "women directory" without the "s"

I have asked for men's and women's boy's girl's and children's directories. But that is me. If you are happy with the name... then congrats. I wasn't trying to devalue your name. My name is shorter and less likely to be misspelled. You may notice I haven't sold it yet, so maybe my asking is to high. I do know why I picked the name (also own menswebs.com). It made sense to me. Obviously no one else thought it was a good reg. That's part of the beauty of domains.... and part of the conflict. LOL

I have to confess that English is not my native language, and your posts have defenitelly given me some more good elements to consider when I finally decide to put a price for the domain (in case I decide to sell it).

You have a great domain name there... and Directories are a hot thing right now,

If you do not have the time to develop the domain why not hire some one to do it for you.

If you can't afford to pay someone to develop it for you then why not find some one that will develop the domain name with you on a JV Joint Venture partnership deal.. This way you are not out of pocket and you may be on to something.

There are many free directory scripts out there you can install on the domain and all you need to do is spend time getting Women related websites to list with you... It is not hard at all to do just takes time to find them and contact them.

Then after 6months when you have loads of sites indexed and linking back to you, you then start to charge for paid listings... in the mean time you have affiliate links on your directory that are releated to women.

If you don't want to do all that.. then for a quick sale I would think $1k or you can hold out and post it on Sedo.com for 3-5k you may get more...

But if you develop it then you would get loads more..

The idea of developing a directory of "available women" has also crossed my mind. I see thousands of dating web sites where people, I believe specially men, register and pay to find and contact women in their region. I personally don't know this area of the market, but since there are so many sites doing this out there, it must be a good business.

Other people have suggested a porn site, but I'm not really into that.

I have seen your Directory Submitter software page and I see that you know how big the power of Directories is right now.

Many of the "developed" domain names I have are directories and they have confirmed to be one of the best "automated" money maker machines that you can build on the Internet.

I have already done what you suggest with some of them, and have turned some of them into PPC search engines, after almost a year of having them as free submission directories, collecting thousand of prospect paid advertisers for the PPC version of them.

I brought the issue of WomenDirectory.com up on this forum, because I really wanted to know how much I could realistically ask for a domain with a huge potential like this one has, but after seeing the appraisals and comments made by the ones who I think know the domain name market very good, I really believe it would be better to keep it and develop it myself.

I will certainly take a closer look at your software.
