Wsl???

The much ballyhooed Wait-List Service for expiring domain names came one step closer to reality as ICANN members voted to approve the service during their March meetings in Rome. However, the WLS still must clear several legal obstacles and gain approval from the US Department of Commerce before it can be launched.

Dose anyone have any great detales about this? would this mean that there wouild only be one thing sold if a domain would be droped for the tld. like yahoo . com if droped would go to who ever had the thinngy? im so lost :) i cant explane myself.

Thanks

QBert

The t&c's of any WLS slot you decide to take should cover such tm issues off i.e. register that slot at your own peril. The registry can always strike off any WLS slot it feels violates tm issues at their discretion and without due notice if they want. In other words, your legal rights to a WLS slot are weak, very weak.

once these slots come out will things like pool and snapnames die out?

... Snapsames seems already on its way to extinction ...
Services like Pool might survive IMO if the prices for WLS slots are steep. Anybody heard something about this?

Yes Qbert. Only one slot will be available and the person holding that slot will get the domain when it drops, for .com & .net only.

The big question for me is how much the WLS slots will cost. All depends from this number.

NextRegistrationRights.com (NetSol) is charging $39 per year so other registrars would have a lower rate then that and would probably jack up the price a tad bit to earn a profit. Registrars offering wls would have different prices but would have to keep it in the same range ($40) to stay competitive.

Means this, that WLS is already working?
Do I have missed something?
I thought, that ICANN has still to give the final approval for WLS and that the conditions will be hammered out thereafter ???

NO, it's not working or approved. NSI is just taking "pre-registrations" as are several other registrars. Essentially chance at getting the slot IF it's approved and IF NSI wins the slot.

I recently read a computer industry trade journal that speculated that Verisign might be giving up or losing interest on the WLS. I can't remember where I read it though.
