great name! Its only going to increase in value. Especially with the introduction of IMS, Wimax technology! You have a winner, but im sure you knew that already. $xxxx minumum. I mean who knows eventually you could get a big telecom company to bite off alot more than $xxxx...

Thank You.....but I was just screwed by GODADDY AGAIN!. THis is twice in one week that godaddy has bent me over. I got the failed to reg email after I've pointed servers and everything. I dunno about godaddy..... I guess money is all they care about anymore.

They took back from me this year alone.

sexy.fm
france.net.nz
wirelessnetwork.info

and a couple of other goooood names. I am going to stop using them completely. I have zero faith in godaddy any longer.

Hi NameNut! So sorry to hear your plight! i have to say I am in complete agreement with you about the godaddy thing. I bought freemusicdownloads.info the otherday, When I was checking availability it was available(every ext taken and .info has a decent PR So i was excited ) so I paid, and two days later it was out of my account saying it was already registered... It has happened to me on at least 3 occasions. I had Contests.mobi in my account than it dissapeared a few hours later... Sigh, it would seem that the whois database is not always up to date, or godaddy's system has a few glitches. I bought some names this week and have been unable to change nameservers. I think they are having some problems introducing the new control panel.

Thanks Acrobat....

I can not tell you how mad I am.These were all in a two week span so you may be right about the new control panel. Here is the strange part. You can not use the whois to find out who regged it and when. The whois says a software is blocking the info ????? Funny.......

The GD control panel is all screwy. Had the name switch happen to me once before--now I always double check with another registrar. Girls.info was available today on GD (NOT) I would have regged but it was a mirage. :tri:

Why does this happen?

The Registries!!!!!!!!

What happens is that when a name is searched using GoDaddy, it basically checks the registry database for availability, the problem is that not all registries are created equally - I have run into several instances of this occuring with .info - as the registry updated their DB, its often taken offline so that at the time of search Godaddy cannot see if it is available or not, so it processes the order and attempts to register the name for you. Check the registration date on your name.

wirelessnetwork.info was regged - Sept 4th 2006

Did you regg it the same day? or after?

----

Same issue applies with ccTLD extensions, especially ones like .fm who charge a premium for better domain names. (not sure if thats one, but it might be). I attempted to pickup a very nice .fm a year ago, regged it, then it disapeered from my account - because it was never really mine. I had to go to the registry and pay the $1000 reg fee.

I used to work for GoDaddy, so I know. I can also assure you there are no conspiracy's to stealing your domains, I wouldve blown the whistle on that for sure.

It could be a classical case with .info thing. Check any popular name at domaintools.com and you will see info is shown available at first instance all the time.

I use Godaddy too and never had any problems with it. Tha control panel it's more than intuitive, and the customer support it's ok. I suggest you to use more than one service to check if one name it's free. No service it's 100% accurate, and there might be cases when you find a good name and find out later that it's already reg. So use an second search service to check if it's really free. But the conspiracy part, and all that.. I strongly disagree. They have so much money from the registred domains( they have over 6,5 mil registred domains ), so I really don't think they will even look for an xxxx$ - xxxxx$ domain(or higher).

Thank You everyone for the feedback and support. I run the names in search. Then I compile a list. I check the numbers on the name and I search them again. Usually I will search the name 4-6 times before I buy. This was the case in all the names I've pulled. I rarely impulse buy traffic names. Niche names yes but this name showed open for 3 days. Each day it was searched and the list was narrowed.

Godaddy has the problem. They are the registrar opperating under guildelines to do so. They should be held to a higher standard of expectations than myself. If Sexy.FM is a premium name then "they" should be aware if it and not sell it to me only to be pulled and allow regged before I have time to sneaze. What about giving me fisrt option to buy it or locking until I refuse or pay up. Maybe an email that gives me some kind of option rather than "We took it, we put it back in the pool and oh .... hey ...looks like some one took ...SORRY!

In my business if I fail a contract I pay!

Namenut -

I hear what you are saying, but you have to understand it is the registry who decided to have these "premium" names. They dont exactly hand over a list to the registrars and say "oh by the way, these names are more expensive". I feel for what your saying, but I still dont think you can blame the registrar. I do however believe that Godaddy and all registrars should be aware of the issue and should be more clear on their sites. However like with all registries, each have diff and "weird" rules, weve just gotta accept that all registries sometimes act screwy.

I have been using Moniker.com and am very Happy!! I use to spend $3-4K with godaddy a month, but have had enough. Moniker runs a Live system, so if the domain says it's available, then it's available.

The reason you are facing this problem is because you tired to register a domain which was about to expire.and this sept first week godaddy had some changes.so they might have shown you that the domain name is available.

wirelessnetwork.info was first registered in 2001 and it was backordered by its prefered partner before you could register it.
Btw,has godaddy refunded your amount?...in most cases they'll credit your a/c.

Has this info helped you?
