Telecom Italia has signed a deal with South Korea's Samsung Electronics to run WiBro trials at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Telecom Italia said on Monday it would be the first in Europe to offer WiBro, the South Korean version of the wireless broadband service WiMax.

South Korea launched a trial WiBro service in locations -- including buses -- last month, as Samsung unveiled its new phone designed for WiBro.

Yes In Australia also called Mobiles ,if you called them CellPhones you would end up in a Padded Cell

Maroulis there are only two Types of Names. Premium (What a person owns) and Reg-Fee(Everybody elses)

thank u all for your remarks, I didn't know that in UK they don't use the cell phone term.

You are all posting remarks on wibrocellphone and wibocellphones.co.uk. Ok so thats american terminology. What about the rest of domains. Their keywords are not country specific and I think its a matter of time before the UK market adopts WiBro.
Of course, I could be mistaken, its just a speculation.

petros I think I've already replied to this via PMs at DNF...if you click on the thread link above you'll see my reasoning as to why the WiBroxxxx is not worth any money....

to re-iterate:
(a) WiBro is not a service which can be marketed to end-users via resellers/3rd parties (like cellphone)
(b) Vendors who might support it in the future will list their products on their pages no need to buy external sites
(c) lastly your domains are CO.UK so to say worth reg-fee is overstated

rgds,
SM

If you looked at all the latest news at CES show in Vegas --Wibro will be big!!!!

Samsung Shows WiBro Phone
01.04.06

LAS VEGAS -- For the first time in the United States, Samsung demonstrates WiBro (Korean Wireless Broadband) service on one of its world's first Mobile WiMAX phones, the Samsung M8000. Samsung's WiBro service demonstration is an exciting precursor to the first commercial service in the Korean market slated for the first half of 2006.

WiBro, a Korean Wireless Broadband service based on the mobile WiMAX technology (IEEE 802.16e TDD OFDMA standard), is a wireless high-speed broadband service able to deliver voice, data and video at speeds of up to 120 km per hour. The Mobile WiMAX technology provides true mobile connectivity by giving users seamless broadband connections anytime, anywhere.

Mobile WiMAX's advantages include a broad range of converged services delivered from a single, IP-based network. Home, business, and vehicular applications include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIp), video telephony, multimedia messaging and conferencing, location and telematic services, broadcast, and multimedia push and demand services. Mobile WiMAX will drive revenue through delivery of broadband services to rural and suburban locations not accessible by current technology as well as creating broadband "hot zones" in more densely populated areas. WiMAX is also capable of delivering access and transport convenience and cost savings through wireless backhaul.

Using its M8000, a smart phone equipped with a QWERTY keypad, Samsung showcases WiBro services available in the Korean market through a series of applications including broadcasting, home networking, video conferencing, video on demand, mobile navigations, and push-to-all (push-to-talk/data/video).

"Samsung is excited to showcase WiBro services on Mobile WiMAX technology, network infrastructure, and devices at CES," said Kitae Lee, president of Samsung's Telecommunications Network Business. "As a leader in developing Mobile WiMAX globally, Samsung knows the tremendous benefits this technology offers consumers. Our demo at CES is a preview of what we are commercializing in Korea during the first half of this year, and hope to eventually roll out in the U.S."

and I was wondering - where have you been all this time? probably busy testing WiBro BTSs at your chalet??

and now seriously - do you even READ the PRs you keep copy/pasting? Do you see any telco announcing trial? Did you see a WiBro alliance or some industry standardization?

i'm tired repeating myself...
