hey guys

we all heard that microsoft is possibly working on a 128-bit version of windows 8 or windows 9.. this from a article i read online:

- Just before the world receives Windows 7, there are already rumblings of a generation-after-next version of Windows that will come in a 128-bit flavor.

Eightforums spotted in Microsoft Senior Research & Development employee Robert Morgan’s LinkedIn profile that he was working IA-128 for the next two generations of Windows.

The update to Morgan’s profile, which has since been removed, read as follows:

"Robert Morgan is working to get IA-128 working backwards with full binary compatibility on the existing IA-64 instructions in the hardware simulation to work for Windows 8 and definitely Windows 9."

i picked up a set of WINDOWS128 - .com, .net, .org, .info . - and don't know if it has any value.

when searching online, windows 128 gives more than 48,000,000 on google.

what do you guys think of these names? are they worth anything?

Windows128.com
Windows128.org
Windows128.info
Windows128.net

your help is very much appreciated. thank your for your time!

Search using quotes "Windows 128", and it's more like 100,000.

IMHO, you are really asking for trouble with this one. I sleep well at night by not going down these possible TM infringement roads...

When going to Windows7.com, that redirects you to the MS Windows7 site. Do you really think that if MS comes up with a new Windows name of Windows128, that they won't come knocking on your door? I say you are on someones radar screen already.

I would say let these quietly expire in November and walk away...

On a somewhat related note, I noticed that Windows8.com and Windows9.com are reg'd to a company called Corporation Service Company. Anyone know the story behind this company? Would they be clients of MS?

windows sdk download xp style at windows64.com reg since 2001 so im not sure about this.

Most people don't know what bit there OS is anyway so this may be a dead end before you start even thinking about TM issues.

I agree. Besides from major trademark issues this domain to most people would stand for windows version 128. Long way to go for that one

i don't understand
obviously microsoft has the WINDOWS trademark, but not WINDOWS128
what if i wanna develop a site that has 128 different designs of actual windows for houses? they can't take my domains from me can they?
also, how come there are so many people selling iPad related domains here on this site, and people are still bidding and buying them? whats the difference?
thanks for taking the time to reply. your help is very much appreciated

if you would develop the site you mentioned, all would be fine, but since you already posted that you registered the domain after reading about Microsoft's plans, you're screwed :)

A website about 128 windows in a house would have no value at all. The only way this domain has any value is if it is in relation to Microsoft windows. And Microsoft is very aggresive in legal actions against people who reg there names. They have been known to just sue and skip the C&D request to make example of people. I would get a refund and delete this thread. These threads are admitance in a court of law.

If we had a dollar for every time someone regs a TM name for the purpose of infringing on that TM... and then tries to say they can just go and develop the name for some other completely different use... and falsely try to convince people they never planned for the TM-infringing use in the first place... we wouldn't have to buy and sell domains for a living, we could live off those dollars.

Why do people keep going in that circle, again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again :)

To every newbie and oldbie alike: it's getting so old. Please just stop regging new TM-based names and trying to trick your way around it. Sigh.

Okay, time to fry some eggs.
