Since "mobile internet" is going away in favor of standard web and faster 3G, will a traditional mobile phone site die?

Welcome to NamePros - thanks for posting here... Just a fair warning - the Mobey Fans don't like defending .mobi.

Search this forum and see how offended Mobey Kool Aid drinkers get when you question the extension.

And also watch how those not vested in mobi chase it around like pathetic rats looking for cheese. They are in a panic and try to knock it because they have nothing better to do. It would be like me constantly watching a stock of which I did not own a single share. Sounds funny right :sold:

Anyhow, if you want info on your initial post just troll the mobi section and you'll find plenty on the matter :)

Maybe instead of being sarcastic, as you are a .mobi investor with your 24+ .mobi's (Which must be 'good' ones as you wouldn't have regged anything but!), why don't you explain the answer to him?? Seems more productive to give answers to questions, than just coming into the mobi forum to make condesending cheap comments! After all, you are 'the domainer' with your $100k LLLL sale!! Oh, ...wait, you did say after it wasn't a LLLL as you 'claimed', but a 'proper name', which most domainers know is not called an LLLL.

Or instead of answering the OP's question, the point of a reply, are you going to 'huff and puff' and just throw out some more berating and condesending comments?? (which just shows one's true character overall!)

Let me rephrase -
Educated debate goes out the window in the Mobi forum.

Just beware when asking questions like this around here.

To answer your original question, in my opinion the demise of mobi will NOT be the iPhone. The whole reason Mobi exists is to make sites that are friendly for mobile devices - the iPhone doesn't solve that with a "regular" site.

papajohn56, just do a search for older posts on the same subject and you'll see why your question is getting flack.

I don't think anymore...I know. The iPhone is a great help to mobi sites, not a hindrance. Yes, even iPhone surfers enjoy the freedom of no zooming and lightning fast load times vs the standard fare. My mobi sites have seen a great spike of traffic (including a great number of return visits) whenever one gets listed on an iPhone app site.

All hail the iPhone, blackberry and other smart phones!
