WiBro, DMB lead world in technological development: gov't study
SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- Mobile Internet and mobile broadcasting, two of South Korea's homegrown convergence services, are maintaining technological prowess in the world, a government study showed Sunday.
According to the research conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, mobile Internet WiBro and digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) services are cited as the world's leading technologies developed by South Korea.
WiBro allows users to log onto the Internet even when they are in motion, while DMB enables individuals to watch TV programs with high-fidelity audio and video through their portable devices.
The South Korean government is making efforts to develop WiBro and DMB as the nation's next-generation growth engines in the information technology sector. They were launched last year here for the first time in the world.
The research also said that the level of South Korea's nuclear fusion technologies advanced to 73.7 percent of the global level.
Nano and high-end computing technologies also reached around 60 percent of the level of other advanced countries, meaning that the nation will become one of global powerhouses in those areas in three to five years, the research noted.
