As domainers do business with companies that use our parking revenue profit to bid against us at places such as snapnames, Namejet, and even domain show auctions.

We line the pockets of these companies so they can compete against us bidding on names. It's bad enough some can keep the names and just auction them off.

However, we control the names and the traffic...why doesn't the community on a whole quit being penny wise and dollar foolish and actually do somethng to stop this.

Can someone please tell me why we all allow this?

Is this industry filled with people who just got lucky and made some money because they owned some names or are we smart business people?

Smart business people would not allow thier distributor/ supplier to shit all over them

IMHO it is like any other industry. The big guys are making enough money that they don't care if someone else gets part of it and the little guys don't hold enough clout to make a difference.....

While I understand what you are saying... I completely disagree with the notion that the "little guys" don't hold enough clout to make a difference. There is strength in numbers. Most of the parking companies pay those who bring in the most quality traffic at a higher rate than those of us who do not bring them that traffic.

If us "little guys" would quit parking names that do not bring any traffic then this can, and will change. When a domainer parks their name with a parking company, they are using that companies service and ad-feed to monetize their domain portfolio.

While I can see why one would think that they are not getting their fair share of the PPC revenue generated by their parked domain, I can't understand why some of us want the system to change instead of realizing that it is us who need to change in order to make the industry change. There are lots of reasons why PPC revenue is down, and for the most part the service provided by the top parking companies keeps getting better and more full-featured.

My point is there are other options to PPC, and it all starts with developing a plan for our names to monetize them.

This can be turned the other way as well. Why do parking companies allow us to park domains on their service to make money that we use to bid against them? They could close us right out, keep all the parking money for themselves and really have an advantage in the drops.

But they would then lose all the money from the millions of parking pages we use...and the millions of dollars they make from us.

I'll make one comment on this and then I'll stay away. You need to take two things into consideration, does a parking company have a portfolio of their own or not. By portfolio I'm not talking a few thousand domains, I'm talking about if their own portfolio makes them their largest customer.

In our case we are our own largest customer. We have been our own largest customer since we first got our own feed back in 2001.

If we were our only customer or we had 10,000 customers we would still have a system to monetize our domains, in our case we just made a pretty interface and made it available to other people as well.

If any of our customers were at an auction and I was there as well and they were bidding on a domain that I was interested in, I wouldn't bid because I would hope that the domain was going to be parked with us. This happened a few times at the associated cities auction. But if somebody was parking their domains somewhere else, and I knew it I would win that auction. Another example was at Domain Fest earlier this year, I had 15 names I was interested in buying. Some expensive ones and some very cheap. But everytime I bid another parking company would bid up the domain a few times. Luckily, they were on the low priced domains. But then they had a domain right over $50k they wanted really bad. I made sure it cost them over $100k.
