Why are names "cloaked"?

Just curious why people don't post names in the proper format such as domainmayhem.com in the forums? I know it's because they don't want to trigger search bots on the name, but why? Is it so that if a potential buyer does a search on the name, then the conversations regarding said name will not come up?
