Hello everyone. I am trying to buy a .dev domain name but being a premium TLD it is showing a high price everywhere. what makes it a premium TLD. And any way you can get .dev domain a little cheap or should I just wait for sales day like End of Year sale etc? As of now they are being valued at more than $600 easily.

They are registry premium names. Even if you get one on sale it will renew at the high price so factor that in.

But when on sale the price will be reduced right? I have my eyes set on one but waiting for price to drop a little.

Also I have been searching that domain on all registrars hoping that I could get a good deal somewhere. Now the usual price of this domain is 700$ a year (average on almost 10 registrars) but I found a registrar that is offering it at 20$ a year. Should I take it? The registrar is not well known.

It's more likely that the registrar isn't properly pulling the price information from the registry. It would either fail to register or it would register, and you'd have to pay the premium price.

So better to leave it, or should I register it and then see if I end up paying the premium price?

I feel pretty confident that if every registrar except one unknown one has the price at $700, that's the real price. Registrars have to pay the registry the cost of the domains, so I imagine if you do get it cheap and they see what happened, they'd either take the name back or charge you for the difference.

Thanks, I will wait for New Year's sale then. Hope I will get it on the cheap.

Spaceship has such glitches.
@sameem701 did you try Spaceship, Porkbun and Sav? They have best discounts, from what I know.

Yes I tried all. But still a little out of budget for me. I am waiting for the big discounts. Premium TLDs are also on the receiving end of discounts right?

Yes, sometimes the discounts are very big, this helped me to reserve some special one words, in .biz, .top .cloud etc.
edit: forgot to mention that, until you will wait too much, someone else may snap it before you realize, this have happened many times with me.

hello,sameem701.
Domain names are a finite resource, especially top-level domains like ".dev ", which are limited in number. With the development of the Internet and the influx of more and more businesses and individuals into cyberspace, the demand for quality domain names continues to grow, resulting in increased scarcity.
You can keep an eye on sale days and compare offers from different registrars in advance to find the best purchase options. Many domain registrars also distribute coupons and promo codes on social media. You can search and take advantage of these coupon codes before signing up for further discounts on the original price.
