Hi all,

I am currently using Estibot and Sedo's free price suggestion....which of these two are more accurate? It seems like they are giving two different type of pricing....

Neither - but then again nobody else's are very good either.

Automated appraisals just aren't reliable gauges of a name's worth. If you are looking for a tiebreaker try nameboy dot com.

Good luck!

You should name the domain here. Someone might be able to help. Even through a PM. I use estibot alot but i dont always trust the value it gives. It is a good tool.

So is there a more reliable way to appraise a domain's value? Is there a tool out there? I don't think gut feeling is a good way to go when deciding on purchasing a domain to flip...

There are many tools to determine a names worth but unfortunately no formula's.

NamePros is a great tool. Read everything on this forum. No exceptions.

The most common tool is Google adwords keyword tool. Start there. Try DNJournal .com and run the high dollar sales into the keyword checker and see if you can find a correlation. You won't find one but it will help you realize how difficult assessing a name really is.

Search volume, CPC levels, backlinks, trends, industry, SERP competition, product vs non-product, all of these factors play roles in assessing value. And I'm sure many more. Almost forgot extensions...it's late.

Read the forums and ask lots of questions. Most here will help.

Thanks for the replies.

That makes me feel like it's domain business is not as easy as it sound. I am still actively building and refining my skills in getting high value domains. Hope it will get better over time....

There is no such thing as 'exact' price with domains. At the best we can give you a price range the name might sell for.
Automated appraisals: worthless.
Human appraisals: often off the mark.
Anyway, an appraisal is just theory. That does not mean your name has the potential to sell, or will sell at some point in time. Appraisal means nothing if there are no buyers.

I use gut feeling but granted it takes experience. A bot is no substitute for human judgment.

Why don't you use some prices from DNjournal or namebio, then put them into estibot or Valuate.com? That way you can see how the appraisals differ from acutal sales numbers.

When I have done this I have not found consistant results. The sales price may be higher, lower, or close to the appraisals. An appraisal, even a real apprasial can only give you a general idea of a domain's value. The negotiations between seller and buyer are what really determins the end price, and there is no way to automate the communication and deal-making between so may different kinds of people. :)
