So my friend committed suicide sunday morning, and I was curious and decided to check out that site posted on this forum a couple months ago and guess what:
http://www.mydeathspace.com/deaths.aspx

He is Suicide #48.

Who publishes these things?

Sorry to hear about your friend. :(

Weird site. I can't tell if it's a tribute, or just morbid.

I'd lean more towards morbid. Definitely one of the worse sides to the net/myspace IMHO.

In response to the OP - "who publishes these things" - at first glance I'd say someone with way too much time and a very dark side, although I did see this on the front page which would indicate a person who's somewhat misguided but with good intentions.

We have given you the opportunity to pay your respects and tributes to the recently deceased MySpace.com members via our comment system.
Please be respectful.
Not a very nice idea if you ask me. I certainly don't ever want to be listed on that site.

Sorry about your friend...

sorry to hear about your friend, depressing site for sure, not sure that the authors intentions are bad as it provides obituraries and comments from viewers and does seem to confirm them from newspaper articles according to the submit page, I do think the logo is bad and should show something more of a memorial or sunrise, sunset etc... as the standard death logo shows bad taste. I did email them my comments on their logo, if they respond I will post it up which may hint at their intentions.

I am truly sorry to hear that you have lost someone in your life.

In my opinion there are many ways to provide information that someone is no longer with us. I think that the concept of an Obiutary website is a good idea, but that particular site is not a good one.

The name of the site alone is disrespectful. There isn't anything "cutsie" about someone dying and to take something like "myspace" and turn it into that is just awful. If this site was truly meant to be a place to mourn those who have passed, then what is with all the ads. It seems to me that this person is just finding a new way to cash in on the "myspace" trend. It is just sad that there are people out there who can stoop to this level. The whole thing just makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Sorry to hear about your friend mate.

MySpace is very very sad and full of very very sad individuals, this is also a sad site.

Even sadder due to the fact that it is hammered with adbrite ads all over it.
So some sad bastard in effect is actually making money from listing these peoples deaths, that is very wrong.

Some of the entries look fake (not all).

If you look at the myspace profile you will see some of them logged in after they were supposedly dead. Although saying that there are alot of them that do indeed look genuine.

Why is that wrong? It's his site, the server doesn't pay for itself.

A newspaper which prints obituaries makes money too - *outrage*

A few ads to pay for the server costs would be one thing, but when I went there I was bombarded with 3 pop-ups that would not go away. People can not read what they can not see. My feeling is that if the ads were indeed away to cover costs (which I do think is fine, don't get me wrong) Then why not be a little bit more on the conservative side with the ads. He has control over that and he is choosing to make the site seem over run with the ads.:imho:

Again this is just my opinion.

Maybe he makes a little profit too - who knows - using the example of the newspaper again, nobody minds that they make a healthy profit...

I agree with you a profit is fine too... my only point is that the ads should allow for people to be able to visit the site for its intended purpose and some of the ads make that a little bit difficult. :)

I found out that one of my other friends submitted it to them. I was sort of creeped out because I that the owner (or someone working for the site) was going around myspace looking for deaths.

I like the site though because it gave me more info than I knew and it was very hard finding it in the news.
