Great followup on the famed Nigerian Email Scams:

To them, the scams, called 419 after the Nigerian statute against fraud, are a game.

Their anthem, "I Go Chop Your Dollars," hugely popular in Lagos, hit the airwaves a few months ago as a CD penned by an artist called Osofia:

"419 is just a game, you are the losers, we are the winners.

White people are greedy, I can say they are greedy

White men, I will eat your dollars, will take your money and disappear.

419 is just a game, we are the masters, you are the losers."

It's interesting to note that regardless of where you are in the world, if you're a thief... a criminal... a loser... you still manage to blame the victims.

Very true. Often feared, but rarely respected.

That was not meant as a comment to "stir the pot" only just as a general comment about the current state of affaires.

Naw, that's not interesting cuz it's typical!

I think only part of that has to do with the American "personality." I think a lot of that has to do with us having the more money, power, etc than most countries. If it were another nation with all the goodies, they'd be the target of scammers.

I'm not even sure what emotion we Americans invoke, whether it's fear, envy, or what.. but often we deserve what we get in return.

Oh, I don't agree with that. I think we do a great deal for others and get very little return or just plain negativity.

what the heck... I looked on a manurfacuters directorie and some people where selling ipods minis 4GB $50USD min order 10 and I was like wooow.. then I looked and it said nigeria

I think as tourists, Americans can be some of the rudest people in general.. we expect to be catered to, etc.

We may do alot, but we could do so much more.. of course, I'd prefer seeing some of the dollars we send overseas spent here at home as well.

I am in the UK and love America and its people. I have always been made to feel very, very welcome on my many visits and dont feel you deserve anything, but love and respect back.

I didn't look at the thread in that way but can see your point.

I dont think anyone was looking for a fight. Anyway I love everyone, have a weeks holiday, Going to diggerland on Sunday and have a very high social weekend :hehe:

Actually it's a very good read and there is nothing to fight about,These scammers have been preying on people for a long time,Have scammed thousands i have read about,Iam sure way more. And iam not even a white man,Iam an american native cherokee indian man. Further more,I have yet to see a thread that dgridley ever intended to offend anyone or otherwise.

I took this post as nothing more than a note on an infamous scam from a respected poster at this site.What i gathered is that it is treated as a game by some faction of people.If there was something more there or I was supposed to be offended or angered I guess it went over my head.It does seem like a lot of "people" who waste their time scamming,spamming,or hacking
are delusional in thinking they are playing some type of game where they are "winners",when in effect they are looked upon as low life nuisances.I guess they are playing some kind of solitaire.Thanks for the post DG.
