Hey guys,

I got an e-mail today from David Sams who owns Hawaii.tv and was interested in partnering up with other .tv Geo owners. I did not know about him until I read the info below about him below:

OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY:
DAVID R. SAMS

David Sams is one of the world's most respected marketing strategists, a nine-time Emmy winner; award-winning TV producer, and emerging technologies guru. He has been featured in the pages of TVGUIDE, USATODAY, and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. He has appeared on 60 MINUTES, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, NBC’S TODAY, DATELINE NBC, and WORLD NEWS TONIGHT. Sams is the archetypal entrepreneur a preeminent idea man whose track record is synonymous with success.

In the 1980’s, Sams helped to turn WHEEL OF FORTUNE and JEOPARDY into the two highest-rated shows in syndication history, while head of global marketing and creative affairs for a family owned syndication company called King World. Soon thereafter the company went public and became the darling of Wall Street and one of the most profitable companies in the nation. Years later, without a penny of debt on its books, King World sold for billions of dollars.

In 1986, Sams launched the OPRAH WINFREY SHOW into national syndication. His creative marketing efforts made Oprah a household name even before the talk show host hit the airwaves. She was #1 in nearly every TV market from her very first day on the air.

Sams is considered to be one of the greatest marketers in TV syndication history. He re-invented the way syndicated shows and personalities are marketed, making a lasting impression on viewers. To this day, WHEEL OF FORTUNE, JEOPARDY, and OPRAH remain the top-rated shows in all of syndication--over 20 years after they first debuted.

As a TV PRODUCER, WRITER AND DIRECTOR, Sams has won 9 Emmy Awards. He has produced news magazines, music programs, reality shows, and documentaries for multiple networks and syndicators. He is a member of the Director’s Guild of America.

As a DIRECT RESPONSE MARKETER, Sams is responsible for over $120,000,000 in sales. He has produced the INFOMERCIAL OF THE YEAR, ENTERTAINMENT INFOMERCIAL OF THE YEAR, and PROGRAM-LENGTH ADVERTISEMENT OF THE YEAR. In 2005, he won a TELLY AWARD as well as a US INTERNATIONAL FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL AWARD for his BEST OF HEE HAW infomercial for Time-Life. In just one year, over 1 million HEE HAW DVDs were sold. Interactive television that calls for audience participation (meaning "pull out your credit card now") is the key to much of Sams’ success.

As a commercial producer and director, Sams has won multiple awards, including five ADDYs. He has also been honored by the U.S. Olympic Committee for his fund-raising efforts, and is featured in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICA, WHO’S WHO IN ENTERTAINMENT, and WHO’S WHO IN THE WORLD.

As an INTERNET ENTREPRENEUR, Sams has launched numerous successful online ventures. In late 1999 and early 2000, he created an Internet company that generated over $10,000,000 of revenue in less than 3 months--with only a half-dozen employees and virtually no marketing costs. He was instrumental in launching the .cc domain with Clear Channel Communications, as well as the .tv domain with the dotTV Corporation. Sams’ portfolio of online properties continues to grow through both development of original content and acquisitions. He owns thousands of great domain names, which he refers to as his “beach front cyber real estate”. Sams also owns dozens of Internet sites including Cancer.MD, Help.MD, ToddlerPlanet.com, KeepTheFaith.com, FaithDates.com, MyJewelryAuction.com, RepublicanHub.com, DemocratHub.com, Stockbroker.cc, HollywoodStars.US, and Golfing.cc.

Sams has been a major force in the growth of “family friendly” entertainment media. In 1995, he brought together eleven major music labels and some 65 recording artists to release a seven CD compilation titled KEEP THE FAITH. Marketed under his own label, TVFirst, at a retail price of $124.95, the collection has been certified PLATINUM by the RIAA, with over 1,000,000 albums sold. Most recently, Sams created music compilations for Time Life and Sony, featuring superstar artists Christina Aguilera, American Idol's Ruben Studdard, Gloria Estefan, Patti LaBelle, Wynonna, and Sarah McLachlan--just to name a few.

Sams has created and produced multiple news magazine programs. In 1991, he created and executive produced TRIAL WATCH, which ran for two seasons on the NBC television network. The daily program covered all of the hot legal battles of the rich and famous and led to the later development of networks such as COURT TV.

Sams also created and executive produced ETC NEWSMAGAZINE, which made national headlines because of its ongoing coverage of underage teenagers getting into violent R-rated movies. Sams’ program covered the issue in-depth, including hidden camera footage of kids continuously gaining admission to movies without question from theater ticket sellers. The Clinton White House turned to Sams for his special coverage in an effort to challenge theater owners to change and police their ticket-selling policies to minors. Following a special screening of Sams’ ETC Newsmagazine, which also aired in prime time on PAX TV, President Clinton announced pledges by thousands of members of the National Association Theater Owners that they would require photo identification from young people for R-rated movies. This policy is strictly enforced today.

Sams is also very instrumental in raising awareness and money for numerous non-profit organizations. He has been honored by the U.S. Olympic Committee for his fund-raising efforts, made significant contributions to organizations such as MDA, was President of CNI Holdings, and is one of the founding members of Operation DVD, an appeal to patriotic Americans to donate their new and used DVDs which are then shipped to our fighting men and women overseas. Safe entertainment is a concept that is difficult at best for our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Even baseball and softball games are no longer possible because of snipers, mines, bombs and other terrorist activities. Most recently, Sams launched CharityOne.TV, a digital network devoted to promoted charities and non-profits.

Sams has strong retail alliances. In 2004 he created and produced a program called DVDWEEKEND that aired on the Tribune stations, including SuperStation WGN. The program enticed people to run to their phones and computers (via DVDWeekend.com) to rent and buy their favorite DVDs. Thousands of people did just that, and within weeks Sams’ wholly-owned DVDWEEKEND became WalMart.com’s #3 online affiliate in the entire world.

Most recently, Sams launched a motion picture company, God and Country Pictures, with the intention of producing multiple movies for the big screen over the next 5 years.

Sams has consulted a vast array of broadcasters and Internet companies including: CBS, Clear Channel, Westinghouse, Motown, Warner Music, Paxson Communications, dotTV Corporation, Time-Life, Integrity Publishers, Sony, and many others. He has worked on behalf of many entertainers, from Michael Jackson to Garth Brooks. Today, he is consulting some of the world's top companies in the development of digital television brand channels.

Sams got into the media business by selling freelance photos of local high school sporting events to a local, Columbus, Ohio newspaper when he was just 13 years old. A year later, the editor of the paper asked him to write an entertainment column for teenage moviegoers. Sams jumped at the idea when he realized that he’d never have to pay for a movie or concert ticket again. The column was so popular that it was syndicated to other papers.

At age 15, Sams moved into radio, hosting a morning radio show for a small station in Columbus, Ohio. He then anchored a local community newscast. Soon thereafter, he moved into commercial TV, creating a magazine show that put him on the list of PEOPLE TO WATCH by COLUMBUS MONTHLY magazine. He went on to create numerous shows throughout Ohio, and became executive producer and head of marketing for WBNS-TV in Columbus, where he drove that station’s EYEWITNESS NEWS to a 53 share at 6 p.m., making it the highest-rated local newscast in the entire nation.

Of course, there are those programs in Sams’ career that he’ll never quite live down. At about age 20, Sams created the very first TABLOID TV show in the world, FRONT PAGE SATURDAY NIGHT, which aired in Ohio. The program became so popular that it actually garnered as high as a 40 share in prime access. He also produced and was color commentator of a national TV show called ROLLERGAMES--where skaters had to maneuver around the Wall of Death, and keep from falling into the live Alligator Pit. After screening the program, one newspaper reviewer wrote that Sams was personally responsible for the decline of the western civilization! Despite critics' pans, Sams plans to bring back roller derby to prime time television in 2009.

In 2003, Sams ran for Governor of California, but lost to mega-movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger. While he may have lost the election, he has one incredible scrapbook for his two children, and has become one of Arnold's most vocal supporters.

Sams also authored WHEEL OF FORTUNE: HOW TO GET ON AND PLAY THE GAME, published by St. Martins Press. He is currently working on his second non-fiction book.

Sams resides on his ranch in beautiful Southern California, overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains.

That is a good question. A new york expo never materialized to my knowledge.

Why on earth is there yet another expo in development?

How successful was the previous one?

What wonderful sites have been developed since the last expo.

Yet a few more days of hype that will have nothing to show for itself. Line up the best speakers - it doesn't make a bit of difference, the show comes to an end and everything goes back to square one.

Going to this expo would be like the violinists playing while the Titanic went down. People fleeing the .tv ext like flies, yet a handful of .tv enthusiasts telling themselves about the huge potential of an extension that hasn't materialised in almost 10 years despite several false starts.

Of course these domainers will reply - "good!! that leaves more for me" which we all know is BS. More for you to lose, thats what. If there would be loads of domainers fighting over .tv, you would have a decent aftermarket instead of a wasteland. .Tvs would be growing in value instead of flatlining.

Instead of wasting time at an expo, try and figure out the least painful way of getting out of the ext, not prolonging the agony by backslapping each other saying "isnt .tv just brilliant"

Of course there are a vast numbers of special development projects going since time began. The problem is that I do not have the top level of security clearance to actually find out whats going on.

Everything is incredibly hush hush in the land of .tv.

And why would David Sams bother with development partners. He has enough money to actually develop his own names and if he wants more cities/countries, then buy the names off whoever he pleases. Do you really thing he wants a bunch of fellow owners whom to this date have had a history of falling out with each other time and again.

Unlike .com geo owners, who benefit from type n traffic and thus have inherent value, .tv geos, or any other ext geos have zero value as far as the domain name itself, so why would Sams look at any option other than buying the name off the geo owners. The rate the premiums are sucking the life blood out of these names, it would pretty easy to buy the names at prety low price points.

Things just dont add up, they hardly ever do in .TV

Like I have said in another thread - sayswho - 6 posts to date, all in the .tv forum knocking the ext. Must be on a mission.

Hmmm........Could this be the reincarnation of someone we already know?

That was my initial belief also... so I'll put them on ignore. I don't have time to waste reading negative bs from members who add no substance to the conversation.

fyi, for those who care, the Expo concept has evolved far beyond what it was. That's all I will say at this point in time. ;)

(note: David Sams is not currently affiliated with the venture.)

There is much respect to the people who once spent much time here, gave up much time, and have now moved on - you have left a legacy here for all to read and learn about .TV

... don't spoil it by returning just to simply offload a bag of vitriol

Oh, and if people are making efforts for Expo.Tv - well done and good luck with your efforts

there are some/many websites employed by companies using the .tv ext. And they seem to be more prevalent in Europe.

But thats great for them, not the extension. It doesnt harm or help the ext, unless all the existing .tv's transfers to tv.com. Then that's even worse news than not starting out with .tv in the first place.

The internet/tv convergence happened at least 4 years ago and is growing at a rapid pace. That is not in doubt. However, it seems like the majority of big companies like hulu.com, (which epitomises the convergence of tv on the net) will still prefer the .com over the .tv.

i have nothing against .tv, despite the immediate need to point fingers. But it is an uphill battle for so many reasons.

Some have made money, most haven't. There's a reason why.

It seems easier to change a name than the writing style, and the more descriptive your posts become, the more familiar you become.

Yes, verily, it appears that you are a reincarnation. Keep posting, and do not stray from this forum, as there seems to be nothing for you elsewhere.

Somebody should have told JohnTV that!

Unlike .com geo owners, who benefit from type n traffic and thus have inherent value, .tv geos, or any other ext geos have zero value as far as the domain name itself...
Of course 15 years ago this wasnt really the case was it? Where was the "inherent" value in .com then? Even in 2002/03 you could see idiot running around forumland talkin s### about how domains are all really worthless and how glad they were to see everyone who didnt agree take the pinch. Lottsa people left domaining then only to regret it. Then too some people actually let million dollar names go back in '93 becasue of the sudden $50/yr price tag. I've met a few.

True there isnt much of a domainers market for .tv. And true I really dont care about that, I never have been in this game for the quick flip. Will I lose more money in.tv? Undoubtedly lots more. Will I earn it all back a hundred fold and then some. I'm not so foolish as to think its a certainty but my experience informs me I will - so long as I survive and persevere.

BTW- in case you didnt know -theres actually quite a bit of quality type-in traffic in non .com TLDs, esp .net and .org. Just a little secret I thought I'd share with you today since you obviously need something good in your life for a change.

:D

...it would pretty easy to buy the names at pretty low price points.

It may be that Sams is (was) merely looking for some quick sales at a cheap price. Then again arn't we all. If anyone has any cheap geos for sale please be sure to let me know first! Reasonable premiums do not upset me!!!
