I've been on Macs since day one, so I really can't compare. I do notice however that the movement is always in one direction: Windows -> Mac. You just don't hear too often of people moving in the other direction.

Wow, a school with Linux? I wished my school used Linux rather than that terrible other operating system, XP...
I use Linux (Ubuntu, but thinking about Xubuntu) but sadly have to keep an XP desktop around to play my games on.

Mac OS all the way. I got so tired of Windows hassles that I refused to upgrade to Vista. Good thing too from what I keep reading about it.

I figured if I am going to be forced to buy more hardware just to make Vista happy, then why not spend that same money on hardware and an OS to make me happy?

History shows that the better technology is not always the most popular.
For instance how in the world did VHS beat Beta?? How did the IBM PC beat the Amiga and Atari ST at the time? Image and Marketing. The same applies to other areas, like music.

The Mac is fast, sexy, simple, intuitive, and it works.

P.S. If I hadn't gone with an iMac I was giving serious consideration to Ubuntu.
