Hello, I want to get started selling domains, but the problem is, I know little to nothing about them.

Could somebody give me a quick (very quick) guide from registering an un-registered domain all the way to the final sale? I have no idea what to do.

Also, I am not looking to 'make a living' but instead just an extra few bucks on the side of my day job. I was thinking of registering some snappy .com's or .co.uk's and selling them from anywhere to 20-100 dollars a piece.. but again, I don't know where to begin. Or where to end.

Thanks in advance!

First of all if you have some domain names in mind, do a search to see if they are available. You can do that by going to domain registrars like godaddy, 1and1 or others. I wouldn't go with anyone that charges too high for registering domain names as should be under $10. And the longer they have been in business the better. If you are looking for established or expired domain names, then you can search for them from places like tdnam, sedo, etc. Always evaluate before you purchase to make sure that they are worthwhile names that you can make a profit from because it's not always easy to do so. Read various domain name topics in this forum and you will get a lot of helpful information. Just don't jump in until you are well informed and best to invest slowly.

Step one:
Whois - Check for an unregistered name.
These includes: whois.net, whois.hm, who.is, whois.sc

Step two:
Register domain at registrar.
These include: website.in, moniker, godaddy, namecheap, enom, dotster, etc. Just don't use registerfly ;)

Step three:
Find a way to develop / Find end user.

Step four:
Sell domain.
Accept payment via paypal or other method.
Most secure method is: escrow.com or sedo.

I don't think there is a quick guide as such that would adequately provide enough information. My thinking is the best way to get a quick start is to gather enough info before you actually start spending some money. Reading as many posts at namepros as you can possibly digest is the best way to do that. There are also some other similar but inferior forums :imho: that you may want to check out.

Simply knowing the procedure of registering and transfering of names may not
be adequate for selling domains any more than being able to register an automobile makes one capable as a car dealer. You may end up with a lot full of scrap metal.

Look, the honest truth is that your first domain registrations are probably going to be awful. It takes lots of time to learn what makes a domain valueable and then going about the right way of acquiring and reselling.

Be smart, read as much as you can on this Forum and any other info you can get your hands on. Request assistance from senior members and ask your specific questions in the forum if you cant find an answer.

Before you go off and start regging names, carefully consider them. Many newbie domainers come in and spend a small fortune are worthless domains. There are lots of ways to make some money in this biz, just find the one that works best for you and research it.
