Where do you go to get ideas for new domain name registrations?

My income is limited, so I am always looking for opportunities to purchase good domain names at reg fee.

It seems that new products/services/technologies could generate domain registration ideas, but where do you go to read about these new products or services? Are there certain websites, publications, etc, you go to to learn about these new products and services?

For example, I learned about led dog leashes from reading a newspaper article online, but it took a considerable amount of time to find this article.

So if you don't mind sharing, where do you go to find out about new products and services that could lead to registering domain names in those areas? Thank you!

Look at drops that were regged way back. You never know what you can catch on a good day

I second drops as well. I scan for them every day and you can usually find some really good ones.

Check domain sales history (e.g.namebio) to get some domain ideas

Download the lists from Justdropped.
Download Aloudomainfilter software.
Then filter the good ones. For instance use keywords. Or search for short ones.

done. ;)

OR use Freshdrop

Dropped domains are really great I buy them all the time. I feel though that in the future the will continue to get harder and harder to get the good ones though.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. I just used the program and it saves plenty of time. There was 77000 names and I slimmed it down to 600 with the filter, very nice! Repped

Now it's almost impossible to hand register even average quality dropping .com,net and .org, there is to many drop catchers with fast software.

- watch TV and take note of mention of any new idea, service, product, tech, made up word, catchphrase, etc etc etc that seems like it might really catch on in a year or 5.
- get the same thing from books, mags, flyers.
- get the same from new-trend sites like gizmodo.com, trendhunter.com and similar sites.
- look in all kinds of stores, find all kinds of generic items, consider any that have a good growth potential. One of my best performers is FakeTattooSleeves (dawt) com; picked that one up when my friend showed up at her birthday party with one on a few years back. I get lots of names like that. Most I drop, some do catch on. It's hit or miss so you really have to think smart and do your homework.
I mentioned in another thread that I heard the phrase 'milk your moment' the other day on TV, but just missed regging it, someone beat me to it. A clear, wonderful saying that I suspect will become well-used. On another show I heard about grape skin powder, seemed to be a pretty hot new health ingredient so I nabbed that one myself. But I hear hundreds of new terms each week, and only reg a new one each week or two; shows how discriminating you have to be.

- ***you can let me do all this work for you, and simply read my list of availables (see sig) :)

Note that, when getting reg fee names these days, it's basically a lottery ticket whether you'll ever sell them for decent profit. That still happens - I grabbed a reg fee name last year and got a $4500 sedo offer for it a few months later (unfortunately turned out to be a non-payer - but later I found out the non-buyer was a millionaire who was interested, just went with another name instead. Sedo banned his account anyway :P ) - but it's exceedingly rare to get a reg fee name and receive any high offer for it.

The tactic is to get names that are forward-thinking; do a lot of homework, some gut-feel, and get a name you're prepared to renew for another year or 3 to see if it goes anywhere. As you can guess, this is a very risky move and you need to develop a lot of smarts, I could write a whole book about what to consider when regging forward-thinking names... do it smart, or go broke :)

But there's a starting point for you, anyway.
