using NP's domain name appraisal system (that can be found on the main forum page, what's the highest appraisal you've had and how much did was it? you dont have to say the name of the domain if you dont want to (just in case you let on that you're asking for too much for it) but i thought it would be interesting, i also wonder how accurate that system is.

oh, i dont own any domains at the moment, i put through some domain names that i am planning to purchase and they only came back as worth $30 downwards, im not too bothered, im not a seller of domains, im a developer, and i better be a good one if im gonna make $30 domains worth something ;)

anyway, your domain names?

Example: "GreenMountain.org"

$90
$68
$20

Appraisal thread: http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=324

Seems more or less right on target, at the wholesale level, IMHO.
That's not going to slow me down, though ... from contacting the potential End user's :$: here (one being referenced in that thread). Also, I came across another one just the other night:

Link: www.greenmountaingringo.com < ... HoT salsa! Mmmmm. :D

Again, I'm going to have to go the legwork here to maximize my potential valuations, and eventual success ratio. Results will vary.
PS. Welcome to Namepros. :)

I guess Google considers that "tar" matches all those thousands of open source "tarball" filenames (*.tar.gz). Such hits are probably not as valuable as regular keywords.

The highest one I've had was just the other night with a high retail of $650,000. It was example.biz. I registered it, only to get an email later that there was a mistake. That particular name is not allowed to be registered. Here's part of the email I received from Cleverdot.

"The domain: example.biz is a reserved domain name by the biz whois registry and can not be registered, the global .biz whois server indicates that this domain is free by mistake, this does not depend on us.

We have already refunded your credit card with 2checkout.com"

That's odd.. I went too: www.neulevel.biz. (the authority for .biz registrations) and did a quick "who is" on example.biz.. found no record of registration.. very odd..

In the process of registering it, I went out to the .com site and got this message.

"You have reached this web page by typing "example.com", "example.net", or "example.org" into your web browser.

These domain names are reserved for use in documentation and are not available for registration. See RFC 2606, Section 3."

So I thought that the others would be okay to register, just not .com, .net, & .org. Even now at the main whois, it shows a registered but no website code, but when you click on the X you get a message that the domain is available. The other night that box was emply, hence my reason for thinking it was available. It also showed up available at the registrar, though it doesn't now.

In regards to using the DNA tool, I've found it helps save time as you get the OVT and Google results on one page. A lot of times I won't even go past that to see the dollar amounts. It's really handy.

Agree.
This "tool" is but one more (and I believe, valuable) resource to better assist the Namepros community with assigning potential valuations to their domain names (namely, at the wholesale/reseller level). It's not an End user with money in hand approaching you with an offer ... but it can get you headed in that direction if used as a basis for further and ongoing research and marketing, IMHO.
Appraisals are also opinions, and results will vary.

I think here in this case, DJ ... is that the search term "file" gets over 89,300,000 results at Google! It can be a "verb", as well ... as in "file my taxes". There are also things like "file access statistics", "file log data", "file permission", and "file manipulation", etc. that get indexed. These will obviously skew the :$: numbers. How well does the term match up with your "humor"? Certain domain names with common terms/Google search results like this need further research and evaluation ... and Namepros Appraisals CAN complement/adjust some of these findings based on an Appraiser's experiences, particular knowledge, observations, or perceptions.

Personal.Biz (not for sale, development WIP)

71,800,000 Google hits
183,637 Overature
3.5 Market Rating
-0- type-ins (conservative)

1.5 Biz extension value
3.5 Market Rating
5.6 Composite

High $550,000
Low $412,500
Wholesale $206,250

I see your point. Why sell at low high prices now when in 3 or 4 years the wholesale will be todays highs.

Great question.
