Meet Lindsey Blackledge. The 19-year-old California gal was arrested in July 2002 for possession of a stolen, 14-ounce tri-tip steak. According to the Calaveras County sheriff, the beef was swiped from the outdoor grill of Katherine King, a 38-year-old San Andreas woman who called cops after discovering her meat was missing. When police arrived at the crime scene, they discovered a trail of "meat juice" leading from King's grill to an upstairs apartment. Inside the apartment, investigators followed the meat drippings to a bathroom, where they found the purloined sirloin hidden in a cabinet below the sink. Blackledge--who was found in the apartment--was charged with a felony.

man..i dunno, losing your right to own property, vote etc etc etc.. for a steak seems awefully harsh to me.

I thought felonies had to me over a specific amount (for theft)? i know in Cali it's something like 5K or 10K or something... but a steak can't be more than what... 12 bucks for one really kick ass steak from the store... so what gives?

i dunno... to me that would at best (unless they have a recording of the trade and admission of knowledge) be speculative saying someone had knowledge it was stolen.

I've done a google on this ladies name, mostly the same link is supplied but it comes from cnn.com also (appears to be from 2002) and a few other legit sources... but man..

It gives me pause knowing that in 2002 I was in california and as all court cases say "People of the state of california vs....".. hell no.. not in my name will some ones freedom be so drastically amended for a friggin steak.

where's the outrage people? its a friggin steak!

Says it's a felony to receive stolen property, knowing that its stolen. Is that true?

Oh yea,And here in TX if you are in posession of stolen property,Rather you know it's stolen or not,You go to jail.Yup,You can buy a tv ect,If its stolen and even though you have no idea it's stolen,Prepare for bail if your caught with it in your posession.Crazy but true.
