Hey just wanted to run some ideas past everyone here.

I picked up ********** in the closeout auction a couple weeks ago. Idk what to do with it, I'd sell it for a reasonable price, but I want to develop something with it.

I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT FOR THO.

Trying to figure out what niche I could get it into. Even if its an informational page.

I just like the name... The brainstorming continues..

[EDIT: Keep getting price critiques, no longer following up on this thread]

You could have a directory or news page of some sort, for displays "LCD, LED etc"

or

You could develop an app that allows you to ( crop / "file" ) the users phone screen so they can have something else in that display space. game, video etc

That's a very good idea. Like an alternative way of displaying specific files people may not have the software for locally. Obviously it would still need to be simplistic, but thats a really good tip. Thank you!

Hey no problem, I'm full of ideas. I'm not a cpu whiz so I can't make anything. :)

Basically you should not be buying anything that you don't have at least a rudimentary idea what you are going to do with it and at what price? I'd say park it and drop it next year if it isn't making it's parking revenue. What were the ideas you were going to run by us, again?

Okay I should rephrase. I am looking for some help brainstorming ideas.

Parking is obviously an easy option but doesn't make much. I'm trying to actually come up with a something to develop. I develop niche sites, just trying to figure out something for this domain. McDuke has a really good idea for it so far.

And please, a $14 domain is very small price to pay to have at least one year to play around with it and search for revenue streams.

The famous last words of every domain hoarder. :p

If you paid $14 you paid to much. You haven't heard of GoDaddy coupons?

Closeout $11 + $2.95 reg fee (coupon) = $13.95

The domain has no viable or practical commercial use. It is best to drop the domain.

Ah, I see it would have been more wise for me to post this up in the web development section.

Since all I see here, aside from McDuke, is responses from those who just park and sell, not develop.

I mean I'm not writing out the fact that nothing may come of it, but honestly I'm not here for recommendation on keeping the domain or not. This is just for brainstorming.

I am in the End-User business. 80% of my revenue comes from e-commerce.

Good luck with your development for this domain. I hope it works out for you. But I do agree with alien51, I don't see any commercial value in this domain. BTW, he is a developer, as I see he has told you.

Generally speaking, I think it's best to start with an idea you want to develop and then pick the right name for that project.

Domainers are always trying to come up with project ideas to justify domains they bought.

But if you're going to spend time developing something, its success is really determined by the strength of the fundamental idea. Don't waste that time on an idea that is only a place holder.

Say you spent $10 or $100 on a domain you're not sure about. Would you want to spend weeks or months or years committed to a project just to avoid losing that $10 or $100?

I completely understand where you're coming from as well as Alien and Stub.

I only have a 60 domains or so. 1/3rd of those are for niche sites and the others are for sale.

I usually register with a purpose, but this one domain just grabbed my attention and I just figured what the hell. I'll just pay the closeout price and maybe a thought will come to mind at some point.

As somebody who typically checks the reviews and price at every retailer when I make daily purchases, I can live with the fact that I made one purchase on impulse lol :D

UPDATE: Also I'd like to mention that yeah, no clue still on what I'll do. It's already made it to the "meh" list in my thought process. Maybe when it expires next year I'll just pay 50 cents for a bumper sticker of the domain and wear the humiliation haha

I hate to quibble, but Godaddy charges a renewal fee with closeouts, not a reg fee, and I've never seen a $2.95 renewal coupon. Are you sure you didn't actually pay $20+ for this domain?

Let's just say as somebody who works directly in the field, I have nothing to learn on the pricing structure, or renewal costs and/or promotions that are out there.
