Hope this is in the right place. We've owned thefashionboutique.co.uk since 2004 and arranged an unofficial deal with a local supplier to basically become an affiliate for their products and sell them through the site. We bought the domain, developed the site, were responsible for setting up full ecommerce, etc. We did all this free of charge on the basis that we would take a 20% cut of the profits. Since it wasn't working and we were getting very few sales, around six months ago we decided to call it quits and took the site down while we figured out what else to do with it.

We still had a fair amount of traffic going to the domain so we listed it with Sedo with our others while looking for a new angle for it. We've just noticed today that the Whois has been changed!!! It still has our company name but the address (and something about a car company) is most definitely not us.

AND... we can't access it to upload anything when we've already paid for hosting on it, like it's blocked. The Whois was changed at the beginning of March, a week or so after first putting it up for sale at Sedo.

Any ideas or advice on what's going on and what to do about it? I guess first step is to speak to the company we registered the name with on Monday but I'd really like your opinions too.

How can someone do this?? Surely any change has to come from us? I'm obviously being really naive here...

:td:

Did the domain expire?

When now does it say it was registered?

You should contact your registrar. It appears hijacked.

My guess (only a guess) is that your hosting company is probably the same company you registered the domain name with and....you probably only "leased" it (which sometimes happens and ppl mistakenly believe that they OWN the domain)....and NOW they are placing it up "For Sale" here's a link that I found (I could be TOTALLY wrong on this)...

Thanks so much for your responses, really appreciate them. No the domain is still ours, it isn't due to expire til Nov 06. Also, we had a suspicious email yesterday which seems to coincide with this issue.

We had an email from someone claiming to be from Actinic saying we are overdue an invoice for the secure ssl certificate but the email did not come from them (not that we owe them any money either!). Actinic is the ecommerce software we used on the site at the time.

It's all a little strange and I can't wait to speak to the registrar on Monday to find out what the heck they've done with my domain. :td:

OldRatRacer... that's us :hehe: Sorry mate, should have mentioned that somewhere. I really appreciate you checking that out for me hun. But I will look into the lease thing... nah that can't be right. We owned the domain for a while before we arranged hosting for it. Hmm, I'll check anyway.

Thanks a lot folks!

I was gonna ask that.. The only thing I could think of was a attack or someone was keylogging you and got it or something...
