With thousands of startups needing a name for their new company and many more existing businesses also branching out all the time and needing names for their new line of products and services it seems that brandable domains is one of the areas that could be very beneficial to domainers both old and new and deserves to be explored further.

Below are a few points of discussion to get this thread started, if I have left something important out please let me know so that it can be added to them. If you have any tips or advice about brandable domains please feel free to share them with the rest of us.

1-What is a brandable domain.

2-How many different types of brandable domains are there and is one type better than the others.

3-What makes a brandable domain stand out amongst thousands of others.

4-What is the optimum length for a brandable domain, how long can a brandable domain be and still qualify as being a good choice.

5-What types of brandable domains are most desired by startups and existing businesses.

6-What is the best way to find brandable domains.

7-What is the best way to sell brandable domains.

Attention Newbies: It's probably best to first hear what some of the more experienced domainers have to say about this subject before you consider getting any domains, and even then it's probably best to experiment with just a few domains at a time. You should be able to sell one domain and then use the proceeds from that sale to get more domains, if you cannot even sell one domain then you are doing something wrong and need to adjust your strategy. IMO

Would be nice to know your opinions.

I like none. The 2 word combos don't make sense, and the more creative ones don't feel right.

There needs to be.

1. Integrity. The name needs to feel like a real word, visually and semantically. None of those things can be lacking.

2. Business appeal. Are the root words or words or creative composition something a business in that particular niche would like to call themselves?

I would have thought so. Oppax is short and has visual coherence, but - to me - no obvious business appeal. Sounds like some medical product. SmartPut has meaning but it is cut short, SmartlyPut would be better even though it doesn't ring my bell. (Available).

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your feedback.

I just replaced "out" with "smart" in OutPut.

Some businesses do go for farfetched wordplays, but not many. I'd say this try would have been better of there was a fitting word rhyming with "out" before "put".

Hosetsy, I'd drop all and reg or catch better names.

In the last 30 days, I've catched and reg names like Micza, Qrumb, Cruwd,

There's better names waiting to get reg/bought
I agree with you but if you he was to keep one then Ureli is not bad. Qrumb is pretty good but Cruwd I don't like. Is it pronounced Crude or Crud? Either way they are both words I don't think I'd want my brand attached to. It definitely isn't pronounced Crowd.

I agree Cruwd sounds like crude but also looks like Crowd. u is like an O cut in half.

I had to own it and give it a try.

I actually like Smartput a lot. I'm not sure if Output is a huge word tech companies are using, but the combination with Smart has a nice flow to it.

@Doron Vermaat I'd take most of them in a heartbeat. Were they expensive to buy?

Thanks for the kind words. These range anywhere between a $12 GoDaddy auction win up to a $2k+ NameJet buy. I'm more focused on buying quality instead of quantity these days.

Thanks, Doron. Yeah, had a feeling some of these were rather on the expensive side. Mumr I'm sure cost a handsome fee, BadMonkey is killer brand waiting to happen and must have also been expensive etc. Good luck! I'm sure you'll have buyers knocking on your virtual doors in no time for some of these.

Easy to remember & not more than 2 words & also reflects the niche that its relevant to.

Most 4L, 5L brandables mainly sound like tech niches

I saw CAPITALISH on daily drop and knew straightaway it was a BB domain.Got it confirmed today.

I picked up FitterMind the other day.

Furthermore a few other, typical BB pattern domains, like Zivini and Yuvvu.

Another one I personally like is Vitably.
