Theres is only one WLS slot. Once the slot is secured and the domain becomes expired, the person holding the slot gets the domain so there is no chance of somebody else getting the domain assuming that the current owner lets it expire.

So it's like first come first serve thing, right?

What if the current owner decides to renew the domain, would i be refunded?

Jeffrey pay attention! Only 1 slot will be availible for WLS. If the slot is taken and you try to buy it no matter where you go, you can't, wheter its from verisign directly or any other registrar. If the slot is taken you won't have a chance to waste your money because nobody will sell it to you. I don't see what is so hard to understand about understanding it. If you want more info go to http://www.nextregistrationrights.com

Exactly, except that you will waste your money by getting the slot in the first place if the current owner renews, thus making WLS suck big time... :(

WLS only applies to .com and .net for the time being.

And DOT ORG. :)

The WLS looks so unfair that it makes me sick. How soon will this go into affect? I have one I want to snap now, will the WLS show up and snatch my chance away from getting it?

$40.00. Geez.

I would like to know where you got this idea? Because WLS does not imply to .org dot org is handled by the Public Interest Registry, not Verisign. Get your facts str8 :)

What if I contact the current owner of a domain and he's willing to sell it to me for $20? Is the person who holds a WLS on that domain SOL? It seems to me that, if someone is willing to spend $40 for the POSSIBILIY of acquiring a domain at some point in the future, then wouldn't they be willing to spend up to that amount, and probably more, to get it NOW? If the current owner is letting it expire anyway, then he should be glad to get some cash for it. If he's not going to let it expire, then the $40 for the WLS is a waste of money. If I have what I thought was a crappy domain, then I discover that someone has taken out a WLS on it, at that point I would probably try to auction it off to the highest bidder! All of this says to me that buying a WLS is a waste of money and that you're better off just making an offer to the current owner.

WLS is a safety net for those domains who don't reply to your offers for whatever reason then let the name drop. I doubt it serves well as an acquisition tool per se.

It also allows you to move in immediately when you detect a name has already been WLSed. You have no other choices.

Believe you me, this situation is the worst nightmare that any of the big players have ever faced.

They would rather lead you to believe that you still have a chance at securing that name, then gunning you down with private rapid fire RRPs or shock-and-awe proxy bids if need be.
