Hi,

I am collecting ideas from web designers, and developers. What is the best software you ever used to create web projects?

From html pages to stylesheets, to optimized web icons, images, and animated images.

Also, what do you use for the creation of attractive drop-down navigation menus, and rollover effects?

~I have always used photoshop with simple javascript, but I want to make sure that its still the best, as I have been out of the scene fore a while,

Ideas welcome

it all depends on what you want to create really!

I use:

notepad++ -- to edit files (HTML/CSS/JS/PHP etc)
photoshop/Illustrator -- to make sites/icons
flash -- for anything fancy I want to be interactive/animated.

What I want to do, is template designing with the attractive fonts/icons stuff. Rollovers effect, and possibly dropdown menus. What do you suggest?

I mainly just use notepad++ or cimson editor if I want to use it's builtin FTP
For graphics, I use GIMP or Paint.net
I have a copy of Nvu but haven't used it recently. I wanted to try the linux-only free wysiwyg program, but removed my copy of linux before i had a chance.

For menus, http://www.izzymenu.com/ looks promising but haven't tried it yet. Was linked to by WebAppers.com though, so it should be good.

I use nvu , it is opensource and free and does most of the stuffs.

From the site -
"NVU - Finally! A complete Web Authoring System for Linux Desktop, Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users to rival programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver. Nvu (pronounced N-view, for a "new view") makes managing a web site a snap. Now anyone can create web pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML. "

Or you can try Kompozer. Both seems to do their job well and they are Free and opensource.

for animation you might want to try gimp. It is also free and opensource and you can create simple gif image with animations..

Hope this will help.

'Dreamweaver' for the design, 'CSS menu generator' for menus, also for a true beginner they may want to check out sitegenwiz to build easy sites.
