Is there a copyright violation there if i do that?

Or other famous generic names, but used as a business name.

Windows.tld
Apple.tld

Never even heard of that extension...why waste your time for potential trouble?

It would depend on what you do with it. If you can find a legitimate use for the name and you have no intentions to cause confusion with a trademark holder, then it's very possible it will not be a problem.

For example, Windows.TLD could be used by a car windows installation company and not run into trouble with Microsoft.

Often a trademark holder will make an issue with anyone using a similar term to their mark. This is what UDRP, judges and courts are for. There's no black and white answer I could give you.

I personally think that a generic name should not cause any problem (eg. apple.com, windows.com), so register them!!
