Hey guys, does anyone have any suggestions for a forum? I don;t thin I want to use PHPBB, so can someone give me another free 1?

I use MyBB over at Wii Lounge, it's not bad at all, nice and easy to use and easy to customize once you get used to it.

SMF and MyBB are good free forum softwares too.

I am also using MyBB and it seems to be the best after vBulletin. Only problem is that it doesn't have many mods.

Here is my thought on the subject. I have used both PHPBB and SMF quite a bit and here is the breakdown of the two.

PHPBB

PROS

• FREE!
• Easy To Use
• Nice Free Skins
• Nice Free Mods

CONS

• Mods Take A Lot Of Install Time
• Not As Powerfull As Other Boards

SMF

PROS

• FREE!
• Easy To Use
• Great Interface That Resembles VBulletin
• Templates And Mods VERY EASY To Install

CONS

• Mods Really Only Work On Default Skin
• Almost Every Template Looks Like Garbage

I prefer SMF just because the interface is better. However you will have to skin it quite a bit to make it look good. PHPBB on the other hand is very easy to make look good but just isn't as powerfull. You would need a lot of timely mods to make it even compare to SMF.

I've used PHPBB since day 1 and couldn't be happier. I played wth SMF on my sandbox site for awhile, but just never could make myself like it. PHPBB has a massive user-support community with alot of really cool ppl in it too, so finding help on PHPBB is easy.

sorry to say this but phpbb is your best bet on a free forum.

My favorite is certainly SMF, better than phpbb, close to the IPB and vB Counterpart.s

phpbb is my favorite free forum. The only thing I don't like about it, is that it needs updating often. If you don't update expect to get hacked...

phpBB mods are VERY EASY to install to. There is a mod that automates everything called easy mod.

I think you need to download some of these scripts and test locally. See which one seems easier FOR you to use and then make a choice
