Do you think .com sites are better, or .net or .org or anything, what do you prefer?

I guess it really depends on the type of site you are looking to develop. For Domain reselling the .com is the most sought after extension. I prefer .com myself for development and resale but I do reg the odd .net now and then.

I agree with Tippy
it depends on the type of site
if its an organisation you would go for the .org
but generally .com is what i pick

.ORG's have proven themselves both in resale, and as developed (typically non-profit) sites. .NET's, generally, are a more difficult sale at the wholesale level ... though can be very effective as developed hosting/email/server-type sites, IMHO. If you have a decriptive "keyword" type of domain ... its value will hold regardless of extension (not including .TV, .CC, .WS, .BZ, etc).
.COM, IMHO, is the top of the line! I also have a lot of hope for the .US in the months and years to come, and to a lesser degree, .BIZ and .INFO. Time will tell. :)

Well there's .com and I understand some other stuff but it's generally not worth the effort to find it ;)

Never develop a .net if the .com is available. :D

Agree!
And, along that line of thinking ... IMHO, Register an "available" .com if both the .net and .org are taken (and developed) by the same entity. My very first sale occured via this method!
Disclaimer: I am NOT advising this for potential TM'd names, of course ... and it surely is not a guarantee, either. Ever.

I totally agree, a .net is usually just a backup choice.

My rankings - based on sales

.COM (the winner and still champion)
.ORG (as long as the name suits the extension well)
.NET (VERY tough to sell unless it is a great word/term)
.US (the up and comer that will make big waves in America)
.INFO/.BIZ (depending on what the word or term is)

I expect .US to move up to #2 (in America) within 3 years. I know a lot of people who already take the .US when they have a choice between .US and .NET. Might seem silly now but I think it will look smart in the not too distant future. .NET carries a lot of baggage that .US will never have to deal with.
