I'm a super duper newbie to web-building. Kindly advice me further on the above. Oh, and if there are more computer languages, do not mind if you post them in here as well. Thanks!

Well , CGI is an interface between a program and a web server.

Perl is a scripting language that was origented towards text processing. php is a scripting language oriented towards web sites. C++ is an objected oriented `extented' from C. Mysql is a data base program thas was in the right place at the right time.

too many computer languages to list here!

here is a list of about 2500 to start you off with though

Not as powerfull as c++ but has many many functions and abilities!

c++ is not 'the most powerful'. These are tools. Is a hammer more powerful then a screwdriver? Does it not depend on the task before you can answer?

And Java is not less powerful then c++ , and fits in most of the same task ranges, it is C that fits the different niche here, not really C++ per say.

These languages helps you write programs and seem to be "not" related to Webpage designing, right? It looks like only java and php are related to design.

CGI - middleware
Perl - middleware
C++ - Programming
MySQL - backend
Php - middleware

I think i got that right.

I don't view any of them as related to design.... for design you are supposed to use CSS

No, CGI is an interface, Perl is sometimes used as a glue language, but it does not have to be, and was not even designed or optimized for this task.

Mysql is a database, or for the way you are using it is also the data store. Some even use it for IPC though in which case it would be doing 'middleware' type functions.

Php also a programming langage. Not 'middleware'.

What is CSS? Is there a program for CSS? Or....I write my codes like HTML? Hm..For all the above php etc, they all have their own programs that you need to buy before you starts coding?

CCS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. You write the code like HTML. An example of CSS is when you move your mouse to a link, it shows an underline. And when you move away from a link, the underline is gone. You do this with CSS. :]

You do not need to buy programs to code php, perl, etc. You can do everything with just a simple notepad. :tu:

Actually you can use all the languages stated above to script a web page except for MySQL.

Well if you get Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (you can order a free 2-month demo disc from the microsoft site), the source files for any ASP project will include a CSS utility.

I bet SAMS publishing puts out a "teach yourself CSS in 21 days" book; that's a pretty good series, generally :)
