Hello,

I've been trying to sell Auto/Repair/York.com and I decided to send out emails to end users today.

I got about 15 decision maker emails along with a few generics and also reached out to local businesses on Facebook and Yelp.

I can tell that my research paid off because I started receiving replies almost immediately but all I've gotten is a big, fat NO.

I just received another reply - the 5th end user to say "No, thanks" and I must admit it is kind of discouraging.

My outbound message is

"Hello,

I am selling domain name AutoRepairYork.com. Would you be interested in acquiring it?"

Did I make a mistake by not including the price since it was a low $xxx BIN? I won't give up with reaching out to end users but I would like to know how I finally get a yes and make my first "big" sale above $xx

I don't do outbound so not too familiar in that area. I'll let the experience ones answer for that.

What I do see here is keywords+geo when geo+keyword usually is the way to go.
We do not search for autorepair york, we search for York autorepair and this is what people will type in their search.

So it might not be anything you are doing wrong except picking a name that is not attractive to the buyer imo

Hi

it's not a domain, that I think, would be a replaceable asset for their existing domain.

this you have to consider, before sending spam to unsuspecting victims

imo….

Where did you learn such tactics, there has been a huge surge in Geo+Service spam coming out of India type call centers, with real phony first name last names.

I am surprised anyone even responded, as that is a horrible domain, and you shouldn't be registering English domains if you clearly don't understand the context of the language.

What is YORK? I am assuming that to mean New York... if yes, as a rule of thumb, the city should come before the service keyword.

It should be NewYorkAutoRepair and not AutoRepairNewYork.com

Thanks, I know that now and I'll definitely get better names and, no, its not New York but actually YORK, a city in southern Pennsylvania

Research is probably your issue. York has only 47k population and AutoRepair is better as a suffix. Yes there are sales in the prefix but lowest is Ocala with 57k population:

Also, there are a few more populous cities available where odds of resale are alot better than York:

Lastly there are other keywords that can work for potential users with many available:
AutoService
AutoCare
CarCare
Automotive

I found about 35 geo domains available related to auto repair and the outbound strategy would be to register all of them (35 x 7=$245). If you sell just one for $250 you made your investment back. But you could also buy one better domain for that same price and try and flip it. Just depends on funds you have and style. If you are just buying one or two domains like that than odds aren't so great.

Thanks so much for the tips.

Would you mind sharing how you came across the domain names previously sold with the populations of people in the geo.

PS: In reference to the screenshot you included.

Nice work!
FYI:
AutoRepairDenton.com == $1,695

Your domain is available! SALE!
autorepairdent.com = ~$8.95 :)

I think for such a weak domain you should have specified a price.

As a footnote to an auto mechanic $xxx BIN means absolutely nothing, you are making the assumption that he even remotely knows what bin means. I would have gone with a clear $495 and it's yours type of an email.

Where did you get this info from?

City and population info = wikipedia.
Domain sales = dnpric.es, namebio.com

Screenshots are from excel. I have a curated list of cities that I hadn't filled in all the populations yet so I took the time to do that while answering the OP. You can just copy / paste the wiki info. Google top us cities and populations.

There are (2) issues -

1.) It is not a good domain.
2.) Proactively contacting people, let alone with a marginal domain, is not normally that effective.

On such a low end domain you might as well put a price.
However, your best bet is to target better domains to start with.

Notice that one of the lowest populations sold for the highest price. Why? because it probably was listed somewhere like Sedo at that price only, and sat and sat, until someone needed it badly enough to pay.

On the other hand email the same buyer and ask if "you are interested in my domain" and will get a: "yeah I'll give you 50 bucks for it."
