Hi there,
I developed a search engine with its own crawler, etc, and spent only a few hours here and there in slapping on an interface for it, mostly just for me to test out the backend (And it's currently best viewed with 800*600 - I know it looks atrocious with 1024*768!).
But it's time for me to now make a decent effort on what the user sees, and thought it might be more useful if I got some tips for this before commencing.
Was thinking of possibility of showing recent searches, top searches and perhaps related searches when a search is done. Would this be a good idea?
The text there at the moment might probably be best put on a seperate page or scrapped, but I was wondering if the first page would'nt perhaps be better with some sort of text there rather than just a search box and relatively empty page, for content's sakes.
I also wanted to be a bit wild with a design, or at least a bit unique, rather than simply follow what everybody else has done with search engines.
Please consider that we do not re-use any other search engine's results - we crawl for all of our own results - hence looking to portray our uniqueness in our design.
All critiques welcomed, and moreso tips, advice and suggestions that could help the site develop its own unique identity.

Thanks in advance,
Scolls
