Website Revamp (there's something missing...)

Exactly what the title says. My site is devoted to kind of showcasing my art.

I've made 5 websites, each being an improvement upon the last and this is my latest attempt. I tried to go for a nice atmospheric/earthy look to it. I'm using css for the first time ever, also, and might i say css rocks (sooo much easier to look at code now).

Anyways, there seems to be something missing. Should I change the font color of the main links to make them stick out more? I was toying with the idea of a rusty red.

Something is seriously lacking in my latest design and i can't put a finger on it. Critique is much appreciated.

Well, if something is missing, it's not egregious... Overall the site looks good to me. You might want to use a more interesting font throughout. I can't tell what you're using now, but it looks like Times New Roman. You have the header font spread throughout the site and that interesting font juxtaposed with the Times-looking font makes for a strange contrast. Maybe try spiffing up your fonts and see if that feeling goes away.

The fonts on the images themselves? When you say "it" what specifically do you mean? (make the banners darker?)

Okay, I was most afraid of this. I think I'll try and mess around with the colors a bit.

I like the header but it's too big in my opinion. I suggest you shrink it. Also the changing picture is cool for the first 5 seconds then it gets annoying. Very nice color scheme. Overall good job.
