I think you posted this question earlier but...

One of the best ways is guest blog on sites related to your niche. Targeted traffic and in context backlink.

Search Engine Optimization helps. It is a process of improving the volume and quality of traffic of a website on search engines via NATURAL or ORGANIC search. You can do SEO yourself if you know the basics about it. On-Page Optimization first then Off-Page Optimization.

The natural way will be to add excellent content/information in your site and make sure your site is optimized for SEs. Excellent content will give you natural backlinks which will help your site to rank good in SERPs.
Also, you can do article submission which is a free way to promote your site.

Think of promotion as a bunch of separate pieces that work together to form the whole. I wouldn't just look for the #1 trick or technique, try to build a bunch of different strategies together for the maximum effect.

Try submitting articles to directories with links back to your site, do a press release if you can, include links in forum signatures like you have now, do social bookmarks, create a lens on Squidoo - just find as many strategies as possible and do them all!

I - Website promotion, phase one - Directories
Step 1 - General information - Submitting to directories is easy and doesn't require much effort.
Step 2- The Open Directory Project - Start with the Open Directory Project. While your site has to offer good, unique content to be accepted to the ODP, its editors usually review sites quickly and won't reject them without a good reason for doing so.
Step 3 - Yahoo - After securing a listing at ODP, your next task is to get the folks at Yahoo to notice that your site exists and is worth a place in their directory. This might cost you a fair amount of money if you are running a commercial site, but is usually worth it.
II - Website promotion, phase two - Search engines
Step 1 - Search engine optimization, basics
Step 2 - Search engine optimization, advanced - Your site is now adequately prepared to really start bringing in traffic from search engines.
Step 3 - Submitting to search engines - Now is the time to make sure that your site has a presence in the indexes of major search engines.

After being accepted into the largest directories and having pages of your site come up in answer to searches done at the major search engines.

The Best free way is through Search Engine Optimization, promoting with great content and related links, then you can also use google local business.
When you submit your website to Google Local Business, it is eligible to rank in the local business section. The section is displayed before the organic search results, toward the top of Google.

Another u create your business blog and write your business update and product and do marketing through twitter, facebook, myspace with your friends. Another u create your business related video and podocast and submit in you tube and another video site. That way naturally promote your website

I still like my google gadgets, modules and miniapps. One month after registering my domain, typing in plenty of free in google search has my site at PR 2 out of 74 million results. There was alot of sites with key word free and that huge dating site POF is still PR 1. I'm pretty happy though as the seo I used was free. It did take a bit of my time though. Whether it continues to rank high I have no idea. I did add a few links to the site and used the word free several times in the content. Not really a very pretty site but has free stuff you can get. The other search engines barely see it. Glad google is popular for search engines.

I think people also forget about how valuable good hosting is. My site is hosted by hostnhub which has multiple US and European data bases. This is crucial for having good web exposure. It could take you years of seo work to get on the first page. There is no way some person with a few servers at home can compete with a huge data base. They might compete in price but what do you prefer? Cheap price or web exposure? I like the best of both worlds.
