I am looking for a FREE web host that will actually let me run a proxy under my account with them.

That would not be smart, but if you really wanted to you would need a static IP and to run DNS you would need 2 of them. If you're running DSL/Cable you most likely don't have static ip's.

If you dont have 2IP's use a remote DNS service, such as zoneedit.com (free)

http://www.apache2triad.net

that will install php/mysql etc, after that goto http://www.no-ip.com/ and use that to redirect to your ip address...

i must warn you though running a server on your home computer is not a good idea, it requires your pc t be on 24/7 else its not accessible, and it will be a very slow proxy

What speed is your connection, and what spec is the computer it will be on...will this computer also be used for personal use? If so, what do you plan to do to protect yourself.

I would advise looking at www.dslwebserver.com -- its a very good resource for people wishing to setup a webserver from inside their house.

Hmm, if your the only one going to be using it why not just use your browser? :p

If your running a proxy on your home computer, you will not be "hidden", because your IP will show up the same.

Sure :D
But maybe the OP was thinking of offering a public proxy service.
I would say be careful, if your IP is compromised because somebody is doing illegal things with your proxy you will land in trouble.

After I install it, how do I log in? I ahve the password but what do I use for the username?
