VPS security issues.

It seems that finally I have found VPS with privacy protection (zipservers.com give VPN connection + private IP address). What do you think is it enough or I need to have something else installed?

What do you want else? Encrypt all what you have on the server or what? I think that you need concentrate on finding good VPS not on security issues.

why do you need a private IP address? my understanding is that a private IP address is not accessible on the internet. which would instantly make it public.

do you mean a dedicated IP? I thought all VPS plans came with that.

You are right. I have seen web hosting companies name dedicated IP as private. They mean the same.

Having a VPN connection for server management and disabling all ports except few must have (http/pop3 etc) is actually a good security measure. Private IP is probably for connecting between web server and database server, which will actually not be used in a VPS in most cases. if you are big enough to support multiple servers, you wont be hosting on a VPS
