Video dot camera

Been mulling over this one for a few days and finally pulled the trigger this morning.

Not cheap to own at 4-500/year, but I want to explore developing a simple website and see if it’ll recoup its fee through affiliate marketing/ads.

Would appreciate any thoughts!

So I take it your targeting the very high end market?

Nice domain, but the holding cost illustrates a major issue with investing in new extensions.

Is it worth a standard renewal? Sure.
Is it worth $500/year to hold it? Not in my view.

I could see that renewal fee turning off potential buyers as well.

I like the domain name for the product it represents if you DO actually develop.
I do not like the $4/500 per year price tag at all.

As a domaining investment I don't like it. In my opinion it will just become expensive inventory if not developed.

As a domain you are definitely going to build on, I really do like it. We have always known of these 2 words "video camera" as the main word representing that product. There is also another term that represents the exact same products - "camcorder". Not sure if you can use that on your site as well to try to capture some of that natural traffic too but it might be worth investigation.

Video cameras are mostly $200 - $2k. I have been looking recently and seen some at 3k and up to 4.5k also. If you can build out on this and capture any affiliate marketing/ads I would expect you could do very well.

I do not like holding any domains with premium renewals and I've had the opportunity many times since I invest in dot tv, but have always declined Premium renewal domains. Only standard renewal domains have been good to me. Couldn't imagine spending more than standard renewal unless you are an awesome outbound domain sales person. Holding costs would break the bank, imo.

Developing this one is key. I hope you do develop. I would love to hear your results.

I wish you the very best.

Thanks, Vito, appreciate your thoughts. I did buy to develop, I'm aware the odds of selling are extremely low and it looks like expensive dead weight. Amazon does own film/camera so I was surprised they hadn't grabbed video/camera since the search volume is much better, and I think if it gets on a big retailer's radar the high renewal cost wouldn't be a deterrent.

I put up a basic site today and I'm going to start building content over the next few weeks, and hoping to draw some traffic through FB/Instagram, and then start monetizing.

If I don't make the registration/hosting fees back in a year, oh well - there's worse ways to spend 500 bucks.

Thanks all!
