From the people who brought you sitefinder, here's another reason to hate Versign:

You may have noticed that your attempts to use the Wayback Machine for expiring domain research have recently failed, revealing only:

Robots.txt Query Exclusion.
We're sorry, access to http://expiringdomain.com has been blocked by the site owner via robots.txt.

Well, this afternoon, I called archive.org in San Francisco and asked why this had suddenly begun to occur. Their answer had a familiar ring to it.

Seems as though our friends at Verisgn are now placing a master "do not index" command on ALL expiring domains in order to deliberately disable the Wayback Machine and foil domain speculators who have come to rely on it for related research. Of course, the timing coincides with the commencement of sitefinder, so they're coming at us from all sides.

Wayback.org encouraged me to complain to the appropriate parties. They were pleased, as well, when I told them I would post the information on the domain forums.

Well, what are you waiting for?! Start whining.
