Using music

For flash intros, are we allowed using popular music from soundtracks? especially if you're using for a business website? or do we need permission from the artist/studio/producer? or acuire a special liscence?

I know there are some sites that give out free music to use on websites, but people who are using their website to make money require a special liscence from them to let them use their music.

I dont know about special license but Im sure you need an agreement in writing.

The commerical music industry wants to get paid every penny it is due. They probably don't go after every guy with a website, but I'm sure if you asked them about it, they would say don't do it unless you want to pay us.

I know sometimes when I watch the Howard Stern TV show, whenever they play a commerical song as part of a bit or a game, they have to bleep it on the TV show because they would have to pay royalties or fees otherwise. I'm sure the same type of thing probably applies to commercial music used on the web.

or you could just use the music anyway.. maybe they won't find out you're using it but when and if they do........ouch!

because I'm currently using the "Kill Bill Teaser" song for the flash intro for my video production website. At the end of the intro, I add the credits saying who the artist of the song is, and what the name of the song is. I also include this information on the website itself in the "website information" section.

I'm pretty sure I'll be in big trouble if they find out I'm using their music to make money. I'd better take it off, but I don't want to. :notme:
