Ok the UN says the US is being stingy and should raise taxes to give more money and AID to other countries. I say screw that stop giving them AID and start giving it to the homeless in the US of A.

The ONLY countries we should help is the ones who dont have an anti-US attitude and the ones who have stuck behind us in this war on terror.

I'm proud of what the US has done in the past to help with disaster relief. I have no doubt we will continue to help.

As Zurax has said, if people want to whine about someone, try France.

Or Fench Canada....

Mr. Lee Ryder and Caveman to name 2

Naming names will really not help anyone GT.... for one, maybe you should think of your actions before you carry them out, because you have upset Lee enough to get him banned and he is worth 10 times more than you will ever be... so get a life, and apologise to him.... or ill be round your house to eat you ;)

All i can say is, morally, the US should send these countrys bugger all, to be honest they dont deserve it... as they are anti-US and have slagged them off at every opertunity..... and as soon as something happens they come crawling back, to be helped, only so they can go back to there old ways, so to be honest if the US didnt give a cent i could understand!

However they do need some help, but i feel that could be given in more ways than just money... and the US is on the other side of the world! What about other closer countries that could help?

Lee is not banned. He was placed in the "penalty box" for 48 hours. He should be paroled by 12-31-2004, ~10:00 AM.

Sorry, Lee. You of all people should be aware of policy. You can argue all you want, but no personal insults. What GT said may or may not be accurate; as mods, we are not omnipotent and omniscient to discern truth from lies. If what he said is false, then simply refute his statement. If he can't prove it, then he'll make himself look bad, right?

Its hard enough moderating such a large forum without having to referee insult-fests like what this thread is shaping up to be.

As for the topic at hand, I'm sure no one has a right to question what his neighbor gives. Do you do that at mass .. check to see what the peopl enext to you contribute? Its simply improper. The US has done a lot, and everyone is giving what they feel up to. The recipients are glad for all the help.

Sounds fair to me, thanks Apollo!

Arguing about this isn't helping anyone, especially those who are dying from this terrible tragedy.

I am sorry some of you have to take a purely political discussion and make it personal.

Ummm... *cough*

Nice to know Mr. GT Web is continuing to try to stir things up when he is in the wrong....

Now why dont we just get back to the topic ok?!?!!?

I will say this...on topic...

The reason Australia gave so much is because they are so geographically close to the affected areas. As soon as they send planes or boats with aid - that goes toward their total. I am not taking anything away from Australia's contribution, just stating that their geographical location impacted it quite a bit.

And I also agree that between America and Canada, we can help these people immensly. I must say, although I sometimes argue these points fiercely and appear anti-American, I am not. I have travelled to the USA for vacations each of the last 4 years for more than a week each time. I am not talking about Disneyland either - rather the heartland (South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana) as well as Chicago, New York and Boston and I love each of those places. I certainly care for America a great deal, but sometimes my view of the Republican's policies overshadow that view.

Well you didn't say why United Arab Emirates donated so much.

Well anyway, if USA is planning on 1B then thats fine I don't see a problem with it and I don't see how anyone else would eigher. This is the Republicans choice and the democrats should think it's enough so whats the problem here.

You stupid independents  And you damn turtles

Your comments were not purely politcal but personal and offensive. You wrote: "I am ashamed for the United States because there seem to be plenty of members who dont give a rats ass how many billion people are living on less than $1 per day...."

EDIT: Fine, if you say your comments were regarding Zurax...so be it.

You wrote: "I must say, although I sometimes argue these points fiercely and appear anti-American, I am not." Your comments are not restricted to policy but instead you make personal attacks on our President and the American people.

Lyte

P.S. I just heard Spain is offering $68M... where's Canada at now?? :|

Its not a world-wide competition to see who can give the most money...

I do love the USA, I just hate some of their foreign policies. I will appologize if I put words in someone else's mouth or mis-quoted them, but I will not appologize for my post regarding Zurax's views.

You notice I said, "Where is your morality? Your compassion? You disgust me" rather than swearing and calling him sexually explicit childish names like Lee did to me.

agreed with Lyte.... :tu:

Some very valid points there!

GT, if isn't not a compitition then I suggest not commenting on what another country is or isn't doing. Doing so begs for a comparison to what YOUR country is doing.

Once again, I must state, I never complained the USA or anyone else wasn't doing enough.

I simply posted the stats and defended Canada's position.

So saying that I disagree with Zurax and George Bush makes me Anti-American?

if you disagree with the leader and therefore running of a country, technically yes it does....

I dont think it does, I have many American friends and I have been to and enjoyed many American cities and states. Just because at the current time I do not agree with their foreign policy does not mean I dont like the country itself.

I actually read a very insightful book called "Bush At War", it is neither specifically for Bush or against him, it just explains what happened following 9/11. From my perspective, I actually gained alot of respect for Bush through the documentary. Just because I dont like what he is currently doing does not mean I hate him or his country.
